    Stopped Going to Church

There is this channel on the TV called ewtn, it is a catholic network, my girlfriend watches it all the time these days. There was a program on a few nights ago where they had a bunch of priests and missionaries talking about how much more happy people in Africa were than those in europe because they were rejecting the use of contraceptives and the culture of death. They also tried to say contraceptives were a form of eugenics and of course they demonized eugenics as the breeding program of the Nazis. Then they talked of a plan to bring African missionaries to Europe and some priests went on about how much more moral they were than their euro counterparts. My girlfriend says I don’t have to believe in that stuff to be a catholic like she wants me to, but how can I go to church that is selling this? I stayed home this morning and made my girl go alone.

Stopped Going to Church - Congratulations !

I wonder how happy those anti-contraceptive Africans are with the AIDS epidemic which bids fair to exterminate them. The Roman Catholic church has always supported irresponsible reproduction, especially by those who CANNOT afford it.

even if people are Christian on here they must surely reject the modern day church and the appaling state it is in.

Good choice on not going to Church.
Our own sickness is what has caused todays problems, and our own physical, but above all; spiritual health, will be what delivers us to a new Golden Age.

I agree with the user in your other thread. Interfaith relationships are generally not something you want to mess with. You find difficulty tolerating this now; could you for the rest of your life? If you are Protestant, find a nice Protestant girl. It will be easier on your relationship and on your children when you choose to have them. By the way, I would think it's the proper thing for her to cease being Catholic and convert to Protestantism since you are the man in the relationship and that, I'm guessing, is your faith.

I'm not protestant, I was raised catholic same as her, but unlike her I just don't believe in any of it. I don't really trust any church or believe in any of what they are selling anymore at this point, the bible more often than not these days seems to just inspire people to commit treason against their own kind.

Become an agnostic, though I've always wondered why disgruntled Protestants and Catholics never research the Orthodox Church.

    Consider:

The Orthodox Church does not have the history of corruption the Roman Church does.

Protestantism's lack of a hierarchy has led to innumerable chisms and many sects believe in the "descent of the Holy Spirit" thus allowing any bumpkin capable of reading the Bible to claim he has a direct link to God, and anything else he wants to.

The Orthodox Faith maintains apostolic succession like the Roman church as well as Church tradition. While the use of three-dimensional statuary is generally non-existent, Ikons allow for popular practices and aesthetic appeal which help to inspire, unlike the protestant denominations who convert anything from barns and basketball courts into makeshift churches devoid of beauty and any kind of aesthetic appeal.

The earliest churches were Orthodox being established in Egypt, Syria, Ethiopia, Greece and Ireland long before the establishment of the Continental Church brought about by Charlemagne. (The Irish were afraid they would be killed as heretics by the Roman church, thus leading to their unfortunate submission to the Roman Rite.)

Besides Orthodox priests can marry! No child molestation there.

It's not you who left the church, the church left you. How can any legitimate Roman Catholic condone the travesty that the faith has to put up with.

I perfectly understand your stance. However, there are renegade high placed Roman Catholics and traditionalist societies and thinkers whom you could research. In my opinion, you shouldn't let your personal relationship with God suffer because of traitors, opportunists and cowards. Don't throw the baby away out with the bathwater.
"After the year 1900 people will become unrecognisable. When the time for the Advent of the Antichrist approaches, peoples minds will grow cloudy from carnal passions, and dishonour and lawlessness will grow stronger. Peoples appearances will change, and it will be impossible to distinguish men from women due to there shamelessness in dress and style of hair. These people will be cruel and will be like wild animals because of the temptations of the Antichrist. There will be no respect for parents or elders, love will disappear, and Christian pastors, bishops, and priests will become vain men, completely failing to distinguish the right hand way from the left. At that time the morals and traditions of Christians and the Church will change. People will abandon modesty, and dissipation will reign. Falsehood and greed will attain great proportions, and woe to those who pile up treasures. Lust, adultery, homosexuality, secret deeds and murder will rule in society." - St. Nilus, 430 AD

Be like St. Athanasius ~ contra mundum "against the world"
    or like St. Maximos the Confessor who refused to teach the crap that was passing for Christianity in his part of the world in the 7th century {and was martyred/murdered}

Where has my church gone to !

I'm extremely saddened by this. It's stupid that some Africans can come in to the church and say where better Catholics then you. That makes no sense to me. Really, who do they think they are really? I'm a convert to the faith and I love it when I started to learn about it. The beautiful aspects of it. I refuse to accept that they want Africans come and serve us. I think not.

To be honest I'm sad for my church and its future.
