Culturally, probably the English -- since English culture has had a huge influence on South Africa since the British Empire took control. Also, I have been living in England for 10 years, and thus feel comfortable with their way of doing things.

Having said that, they aren't really my people. I would like to meet more Dutch people, as there would probably be a stronger bond/connection because of genetic/ancestral kinship.

I don't seem to understand the modern Hochdeutsch people too well. Germanics from the Low Countries seem more on the same mind level than me.

I get on very well with Swedish people in general, and make friends with them easily.

I like the Scots best. They are tough and essentially still a barbaric people. I feel welcome amongst them. Though English I have had nothing but kindness from the Scots.

As a Bavarian I feel the most kinship with Austrians, especially with those from Tyrolia, Salzburger Land and from the Innviertel (former Bavarian territory *g* ). We are all of the same ancient Germanic tribe (Bajuvarians), of course.

I feel less kinship with Prussians and Low Germans, honestly spoken. They just have a different mindset and mentality - a little bit more cooled down, a little bit less talk-active...and such.

During my vacations to Iceland I´ve made many good friends there. They´re extremely friendly, helpful and warm-hearted people. I´m not related with Icelanders by ancestry but I feel strong sympathy and some kind of inter-Germanic kinship with them.

I´ve had less encounters with Dutch and British people but these encounters weren´t that positive.

What Valkyrie said. What she said about "Bajuvarian Pride World Wide" () as well as Low Germans/Prussians hits the nail on its head. Again, I wish my reputation modifier was greater than a measly 11.

My first kinship is felt with a fellow Bajuvarian, and next would be other Upper/High Germans, I've shared my company with all types of Allemannics and must say I like them. Like us, they're hot-headed yet laid-back at the same time and know how to brew beer. They may be from behind the Weißwurstäquator, but a lot of their attitude is somewhat similar, even though they tend to grumble and hold a grudge about 15-20 hours longer than we do. When I first visited a good friend who hails from the area of Baden, I was immediately made welcome, though.

Due to my lengthy stay in Britannia, I have however grown a bit of a liking to the Scots and the English. They may have a bit of a different mentality to us (though the Scots are also a little "rural" like us) but when you're around them for a while it's impossible not to like them. They do tend to grow on you after a while. I like the "British", got to be the humour based on puns.

I can't speak for Icelanders, Dutch nor Scandinavians, since my sample of them is too small - I do however feel a strange slight bit of kinship with Afrikaners due to the fact that my stepfather grew up there.

Certainly the English. English is my native language, I am considerably of English extraction and I grew up in (and still live in) New England, a cultural scion of Merry Old England.

As a Frank, I would say Thuringians (Hermunduren, Anglos and Warnen)

From the local ethnic German communities, the Landler and the Donauschwaben, because we have some common points and we all struggled to preserve our heritage for centuries. Otherwise the Austrians, because Transylvania has some Austrian-German influence from the former Empire days.

The English and Scottish. English is my native language. Most of my ancestry is English and Scotch-Irish. Our Southern culture is mainly thanks to the influences of these peoples and I've for a long time enjoyed tracing our ways of life back to them
