Piparskeggr Returns... Now Podcasting, and New Uller Poem

    Hail all;

My health problems (I had a pacemaker implanted in April) and those within my family (including the death of my beloved uncle Michael) hit me real hard. The 'little brown jug" became my best friend for awhile.

I think with First Frost, Yuletide and snow whitening the world the past few weeks, I'm where I need to be mentally and emotionally again.

I have started converting the recordings I've made of my songs and poems into MP3's and now have a podcast site (as of the beginning of November actually). After the initial flurry of activity, I will likely put up one or two songs every 2 - 4 weeks.

    http://piparskeggrskald.podbean.com

1st post is an introduction, with me reciting a little poem I use to open all my books. 1st couple of songs posted are my 1st Ullerblót song and the Heimdall song I wrote, which was inspired by Valgard's account of the life and passing of his friend Scotty Murray. The casts are just me, my words and my voice.

    ---------------------

I have a bit different than standard way of celebrating the 12 Nights of Yuletide. I don't usually dedicate each night to a specific Deity or Virtue like many folks do, but do have a thematic concept.

    For example:

3rd Night - Winter's Edge: reflection upon the need to be wise about, and prepared for, getting through the storms and cold that lay ahead. As I feel closest to Uller, a winter god, I will also have an Offering to him on this evening.

This is the poem I wrote for 3rd Night. 1st stave is repeated as the Burden (B) of the song.

    Vinter Fulltrui

In winter's storms are shadowed shapes
Of ev'ry thing mind's eye can see
And in the Wind a voice is heard
Snow Sender sings His Ancient Lore

    Another year has passed away
First Frost, First Snow have whitened world
Huntsmen and Kin will offer thanks
To Elder One, Who first Bent Bow
    - B -

    Holy Powers, First Parents were
Man's Tribes came forth in shapes They formed
Their Holy Breath gave warmth and strength
Gave will to do in mind-full ways
    - B -

This Gift of Life, is ever earned
From babe's first breath to wight's last rasp
Through blood and tears; long days' toil
This is Man's lot if we might thrive
    - B -

Within the glade stood strong limbed folk
Bred to the woods and hill and lea
Warded by Him, First of their Line
Guided by Him, to do own Deeds
    - B -

Uller's wisdom, Gift to the Folk
Came in their dreams, or dawning thought
Of path to take, or thing to make
To pause, to look, to hear, to sense
    - B -

Through sharpened wit and well-honed skills
And steadfast Bond of Kinship ties
This Folk lives proud in Elders' Sight
Have health and wealth and hearthside joy
    - B -

As Words ring out and Drink is shared
A wind rose up and swirled the snow
A sign of Him, Who's Always There
A Sign of Him, Who Knows their Hearts
    - B -

    Another year has passed away
First Frost, First Snow have whitened world
Huntsmen and Kin will offer thanks
To Elder One, Who first Bent Bow
    - B -
    - B -

    Be well - Pip

Greetings, Pip! Good to hear of you. We missed you at Carolyn's place for Yule. Only three of us made it, but had quite a bit of fun. Hope you are well.

Even after I started feeling better towards the end of the year, I've found it a bit hard to break the recluse cycle.

I have Carolyn's cell number..just haven't got out of the habit of hiding behind the email/forum post screen.

The pacemaker (the episodes leading up to it), post-recovery depression hitting, then deep grief over my uncle's death, other ordeals...I denned up.

I am, however, feeling like I'm fit company again. This year is starting much better than last (a year ago next Tuesday I had my first known blackout from the heart stoppages).

A thaw is upon my spirit...Pip

    Greetings all;

Many personal adventures in the past little bit over a decade.

My wife healed from a long bout with PTSD and got a job after being out of work 15 years, dealing with that and other effects of her service related disabilities. In aid of that, we moved to southern Maryland in late 2012.

I lost touch with a lot of things.

Big event, I started getting sick in March 2015, got a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer on 14 May, had surgery on 2 June, then chemo from mid-July to mid-December. As of this message, there is no sign of recurrence. I am borderline for developing diabetes, may respond well if I can lose some weight.

Did get the pacemaker I wrote about above replaced in October 2016.

Trying to make a new life here 7 years in, after uprooting from 16 1/2 years in northern Illinois, where my wife and I made and kept a lot of friends.

Take care - Pip, the occasional visitor.

I have a diabetic wife, she is control with eating right.
Try to lose weight and stay away from anything that has too much sugar.
What you have in your hands does not help, just keep it to a minimum.
You are in control, that means a lot.
