A Third of Icelanders Consider Moving Abroad

A Third of Icelanders Consider Moving Abroad

According to the results of a new opinion poll, undertaken by Capacent Gallup, 32.5 percent of participants, ages 18-75, have considered moving away from Iceland because of the current economic crisis.

Around 50 percent of participants aged 18-24 said they were considering relocating to a foreign country. The percentage dropped among higher ages of participants, Morgunbladid reports.

It is difficult to estimate how many people would potentially move away from Iceland based on the results of the poll.

Last January 1, 217,000 Icelandic residents were aged 18-75. If one third of these people were to move, the group of emigrants would include over 70,000 people.

At the beginning of this year, around 31,000 people in Iceland were between the ages of 18 and 24. If 50 percent of those people would leave the country, that means around 16,000 emigrates.

The poll was undertaken online October 27-29. The sample counted 1,117, although only 58.7 percent participated in the poll.

RÚV reported last night that emigrants had crowded the last Norraena ferry to leave Iceland this year, most of whom were foreigners choosing to return to their home countries.

Sad if they leave, I'm sure this situation will calm down. I know some icelanders want to find a new job in for example Norway or Denmark while they are still employed in Iceland.

Exactly. Economic hardship is good. It will give people back their country to live in. The strong can naturally take care of themselves. Though the government might set up the healthy into giant blood sucking machines and then chase down the failures and foreigners in life and bottle feed them the blood as an extreme act of desperation to further destroy everything healthy.

and what Germanic country is there that has a uptopia of job vacancies waiting to be filled?
Our own sickness is what has caused todays problems, and our own physical, but above all; spiritual health, will be what delivers us to a new Golden Age.

    Interesting because

I would move there if I were financially secure, as it's a clean, beautiful country with delightful people, which is far more than I can say for New Jersey.
