Non-Tolkien LOTR Prequel

And what's up with that other mysterious LotR prequel, anyway? The last question is easily answered: Dunno. Peter Jackson stated in his letter to TheOneRing.net that the prequel was to cover "the events leading up to those depicted in LOTR." Many fans interpret that to mean the events between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. To my knowledge, the only published material that covers this span is one page of the timeline in the "Appendices" of the trilogy. The events described there lack the plot-line the movie would need and, additionally, are very brief. You can't make a feature-length film out of "Birth of Frodo," Arwen and Aragorn's first flirts and the bad guys preparing their evil schemes for the LotR trilogy. So unless there are tons of unpublished notes by Tolkien on this subject, this prequel would end up being an extensive fan fiction. Hm. Other interpretations for instance involve The Silmarillion, a sort of history book on the beginnings of Middle-earth, and a two-part Hobbit. But what it basically boils down to is a simple "no clue."

Seems our fine friends in Hollywood are planning to make not only a film version of The Hobbit, sans Peter Jackson sadly, but also another "Prequel" to be set between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring.

What this tale is going to be loosely based upon then are appendices & footnotes left by Tolkien, even though Tolkien himself expressed his wish that no-one ever write any book based upon such.

They were never going to let as powerful potential vehicle for folkish rekindlement as the LOTR is get out of their power without corrupting it. And if they couldn't adequately inject their poison Multi-Kult message into the Trilogy due to storyline constraints and initial public expectations? Well then, just make a Middle Earth story up from scratch.

Hollywood is a sick and twisted place where nothing is safe.Its hunger for money knows no bounds and even the wishs of a genius means nothing to them as thay see that they can make a quick buck of the fans.Even making the Hobbit now seems like cashing in on the success of the Trilogy i would of prefered the Hobbit first then the trilogy then thats it.Great review by the way.
