    Parenthetically, if the forest cover as shown on the map is accurate for that time period, then it is interesting to note how relatively deforested an island Britain was even in the early post-Roman period.

    Britain and Ireland became largely deforested during the Neolithic period, as wood was used not only as a building material, but was cleared to make way for farming land. Damned Indo-Europeans

    The ancient Celts (Milesians in the Irish context) were Indo-Europeans, as far as I'm aware. However, the descendents of the Tuatha de Daanan, Fir Bolg and Formorians might have a good case for reparations payments due to various injuries sustained by their ancestors several thousand years ago. (Though I probably risk being banned from the Irish Nationalism site for saying that here. )
