AW: Proud of the mixture of proud of being "pure"?

What does the threadstarter mean with "mixture"?? Mixture of nationality, or mixture of subraces? *g*

I´ve a very long German only ancestry (but one Swedish ancestor back around 300 years ago, when the Swedes were in Germany during the 30-years-war between catholics and protestants ), but I´m a mix of a borreby parent-part and a nordid parent-part, so I´m not "pure" in subracial meanings I guess.

But I dont even care about this "malus" (who isnt one for me).

As so, I think it is a bit hard to speak about purity...
The portuguese aristocracy is more germanic than many people think.
The current flag of Brazil, for example, take its green and yellow from the Imperial flag. The green is from the House of Braganças (from the emperor Dom Pedro I), and the yellow from the House of Hapsburgs (from the empress Leopoldina).
The Braganças are derived from the Duchy of Bragança, that intermarried with the House of Aviz.

    Right!

The interesting thing to consider here is that many of us so-called "mixed" colonials are really not that "mixed"--but rather the product of the reuniting of ancient lineages here in the New World. Being predominantly of English and Dutch extraction, I look at it as a convergence of old lines that were sundered for a few centuries and thus of a more primeval type than modern Europeans.

Allenson, I look at it the same way. I am predominantly german and slavic, with a little bit of celt thrown in for good measure, and I see no imcompatability with those three.

I voted number three, while being fully Irish gives a certain sense of security, especially when arguing for a nationalistic cause, if I did have some other ancestors from Northern Europe, even a parent, while it might change my identity somewhat it would likely not cause me a personal crisis.

So, at the risk of sounding somewhat Machievalian; as long as my Irish parent had had the sense to mix themselves with something of reasonably good quality () I'd probably learn to come to terms with the situation!

Fully German - with ancestors from everywhere between Southern Tyrol (or Southern Styria for that matter) and Northern Slesvig and between Westphalia and Prussia.

I couldn't imagine how it would be being of a different ethnical make up.
In any case, regardless of that I wouldn't mind coming from a different Germanic or Celtic country though - after all we in Germania and you's in Angleland fought alongside each other in Teutoburg forest...

But Spanish and Russian or Norwegian and Italian would probably be too much of a mix for me. Mixing between similar parts of the same folk group is alright; outwith that, I don't think I could cope...

-Auch ich verspüre Demut / Vor dem alten Geiste der Ahnen / Wird es mir vergönnt sein / Gen Walhalla aufzufahren?-

Yes, proud American of Northern European Ancestry but I could wish my ancestors were from closer places (and didn't move around so much;-), it would have made things easier. From what I know I'm descended from Welsh/English on one side (mostly in the northern US for a very long time) and Russian on the other. I still feel a bit torn as I don't feel right denying the Russian side but I just feel uneasy somehow with much connection to it. I don't feel much connection at all with the Welshness and while Englishness certainly has more draw than say Italy it never really felt completely right either. Celtic nor Slav, which I probably have some parts of just never felt like "me". Then I learned about "Germanic" (rather than just the much made fun of modern Germany and Scandinavia) and my gut got hot and my chest expanded. So I'm still at a guessing stage, without actual proof, but a gut feeling and the knowledge that it is certainly possible historically for me to have alot of Germanic blood. It makes a little more sense when I found that my type from the Russian side is more Baltic than farther east, found alot in Belarus. Not that I'm terribly worried about not being "pure", it's all very "white" in here;-), it just would have been easier to be from a tree a bit easier to trace. I must have roots to survive and flourish. It's not a major crisis for me but it bothers me enough that I can imagine being mixed from too far away on the Caucasoid tree would be painful and significant non-Caucasoid in the mix would be horrid.
