I've tried so hard to get into whisky - or "scotch" as it's colloquially referred to over in Canada - but every time, it just bites right back. Whiskey, on the other hand, is marvelous.

Grimsteinr mentioned Crown Royal as being a great Canadian whiskey - horseapples. It's not fit to clean the paint from my brushes. Try Forty Creek. That's a whiskey with some friggin' hair on it's chest.

Gibson's Finest is also a fine choice - much lighter, and smoother, but oh so good.

Scottish Leader is off my list as it is imported and distributed by Distell

The Ruperts also partially control two of South Africa's largest wine merchant houses, Stellenbosch Farmers' Winery (SFW) and Distillers Corporation, who together produce one of every six bottles of wine in South Africa and nearly eighty percent of the country's brandy. These two companies have merged to form Distell.

The Ruperts had a major hand in the distruction of my folk.

    Bell's then for me...
Although the word "Commando" was wrongly used to describe all Boer soldiers, a commando was a unit formed from a particular district. None of the units was organized in regular companies, battalions or squadrons. The Boer commandos were individualists who were difficult to control, resented formal discipline or orders, and earned a British jibe that"every Boer was his own general".

Atholl Brose - I just tried my hand at making this: I'm VERY impressed, to say the least (not at my brilliant genius, but the end flavour result). I'm looking forward to refining this preparation; has anyone else tried making it themselves? I'm interested to hear if anyone else has tried toasting the oats beforehand, different honeys in the final stages, what whisk(e)y was used, etc.
