Everyone is quoting the Hávamál, everyone knows stories of Thor and Loki, everyone has heard of Óđrerir - but have you actually read the Prose and Poetic Edda?
Yes, I did.
No, and I am not planning to read it.
No, not yet. But I'm going to read it soon.

Lík börn leika best.
I've only read the poetic all the way through. I don't have a copy of the prose Edda and I can't stand reading long texts online.
I've read and enjoyed them both. The Prose Edda was more readable just because of how its organized, and I liked the Poetic Edda too but I'll definitely have to re-read it a few more times before I understand it all.
I've read both, although I only read the Prose Edda a few months ago, as I originally got my information concerning what was in it from the book "Odin" by Kayser-Langerhanß.
I must say that I enjoyed the poetic one more, but that's maybe me with my extraordinary reverence for poetry. The Prose Edda was concise, but I am not such a large fan of Snorri, I actually believe that he distorted quite a bit of our Lore, having been a Christian.
-In kalte Schatten versunken...
(Heimdalls Wacht, In kalte Schatten versunken, stanzas 4-6)

I personally recommend the Lee M. Hollander translation for the Poetic Edda, and the Everyman edition for the Prose Edda; but if you read the Poetic Edda for the first time you are probably better off starting with the Carolyn Larrington translation, it's easier to understand for the lay.
