    Question What is a Warrior?

What is the proper definition of a warrior?

    Who is a warrior?

What is role of warrior tradition in modern Heathenism?

Do you have to me involved in military to be a warrior?

Can a brawler or a strong-arm man be called a warrior?

    Your opinions, please!

I'd say a warrior is a man who dedicates his life (or a part of his life) to the art of war, to preserve the social order of his society and to protect his people, just like the indo-europeans conceived it. Since they are mostly concerned with wars, they have to be a part of a kind of military order. So, I don't consider some big dude knowing boxing and used to bar fights to be a warrior.

I've read once an archaeological resume, it was talking about a man's skeleton, and the doctors could say by looking at the bones that he was a warrior, the bones showing sings of intense physical training that only a warrior would have had.

    Hmm...

I think that a warrior could be many things; a strong dude which is fighting alot, an soldier in the army, a man who fight for his right etc.

The meaning today has grown to include many other kinds of fighter.

The green warriors are particularly prominent. The cultural warriors, like Blutwolfin et al. The spiritual warriors. The warriors who fight for peaceful negotiations to quarrels so that the environment and folk groups are not damaged by aggression caused by and promoted by economic warriors (trolls of the banking system and multicultural lords of universalist agendas and globalization.) The warriors of education who fight constantly against encroaching ignorance. The magnificent protective warriors who carry engraved on their aspirations the algiz rune. The berserkers, etc.

Each kind has a unique training system. Each uses special weapons, sometimes physical, sometimes empathic, sometimes mental.

Not everyone wants to be a warrior so warrior spirit is necessary to be effective. Those who want to train will find their way to a trainer.

The underlying virtue of all warriorcraft is honour, closely integrated with courage. No one can call himself a warrior unless he has passed the personal rites of passage and gained prestige among his folk and proved himself to be worthy, to himself, to his gods and to others. That is why there are no stupid violent trouble making people in the ranks of this class. These have to elect themselves to the position as no one else is willing because they have not, and often cannot, pass the test.

To aspire to be a warrior is the first step. To become one takes a great deal of effort and testing. To achieve warrior status the individual must pass a test and to do this he or she places themselves into the battle field of life and allows the forces of the world to test the would-be warrior's mettle. If the test is passed and the judgement is positive then the warrior, with the understanding that he is not invincible, is granted the honour of having done something worthy.

A modern warrior is active on the political front. This is his new battle field.

The modern warrior is the one who survives in the tough capitalist era we live in without bowing. Regarding the old times, well...we all know, I guess.

Thats a great way of putting it but its such a shame that it dose not have much meaning or dose not hold any weight in these modern times.Harm Wulf in the book Warwolf is to me a worrior he can be the strongest in battle the strongest farmer he can provide for and love his family and the land they share. He would die for eighter one.

This is just something I've googled.

    What is a Warrior?

    by Mike Baker

A Warrior is the protector of
his family, clan and his tribe

A Warrior is the guardian of the
old ways so that they are not forgotten

A Warrior is not motivated by
    greed, political ambition or fame

A Warrior will not put himself
    above others in need

    And above all
a Warrior is the living spirit of our Grandfathers.

When I think of a warrior, the image that comes to my mind is of someone who lives every day wth the reality of his own death, and has evolved beyond the point where death or the threat of death contains any power to infuence his actions.
His objective in life is to be free of all influences other than the principles he lives by.
