My personal recommendation is Heide. Quite the spectacular name for any female Germanic child.

    Origin: German
    Meaning: Sweet/Noble/Abbreviation of Adelheide.

    Origin: Swiss
    Meaning: Sweet/Noble/Abbreviation of Adelheide.

Ahh. Why have you mentioned this. It's the name of my ex-girlfriend, my only true love

And I don't know why, but this name is really common here in Bosnia for Bosnian muslim girls.

I also recommend this name. It's also my mother's name. Cool, eh? Only hers is spelled Heidi.

I appreciate your imput to date, and although there is a few I like, my wife is leaning heavily to-wards
    • Berlin
    • Bergen
    • London
    • Britain
    • Avery
    • Ada
    • Cassidy
Which, if any of these do you think would make a unique, yet practical name?
    Work will set you free!

You must be joking! The poor kid. Imagine the confusion arising from simple questions like "where's Berlin"? Or what happens when Britain visits London?

Is it common in the US to give children such "Europe-in-five-days" names? If so, I'd see it as a clear sign of alienation from the European heritage.

When I first heard the name "Paris Hilton" I thought it was a dog's name.

    • Avery
    • Ada

    Avery is nice IMO.

Re: AW: Re: Help me name my next daughter

Yeah, Berlin and London should be out of the question..

A few of my favorite german(ic) names:

    Brunhilde

    Inga

    Alfreda

    Frida

    Beate

    Daniella/lle

    Dorothea/y (greek etymology)

    Edith

    Elisabeth/Alzbeth

    Melissa

    and last but not least...Erika

I can also propose you some ancient Greek names (e.g. Apollonia, Athena, Kassandra, Callisto, Elektra) if you're interested in a middle name, to me they are the best in the whole world

It is customary for a lot of greek friends of mine to give theit children two names: one ancient greek and one teutonic, in order to honor both cultures (for obvious reasons)
