Goran Visnjic (ER) stars in Spartacus, based on the epic tale of one man's leadership during one of history's most legendary fights for freedom.
In 72 B.C., a time when the Roman Empire's brutal force was far-reaching, each conquered country meant new slaves to do the bidding of their Roman masters. Sold into slavery as a young boy after witnessing his father's murder, Spartacus eventually grew up to lead a slave revolt against Rome's powerful generals and politicians. The profound impact of Spartacus' challenge to the Roman Empire in the name of freedom was felt for years to come.
Based on Howard Fast's acclaimed novel, Spartacus was filmed in Bulgaria and directed by Robert Dornhelm from a script by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Robert Schenkkan. The miniseries also stars Alan Bates, Angus Macfadyden, Rhona Mitra, Ian McNeice, James Frain, Henry Simmons, Ross Kemp, and Ben Cross.
Visnjic grew up in Croatia, on the coast of the Adriatic Sea /Šibenik, Dalmatia to be more precise/. He decided to become an actor at an early age, and later attended the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. While there, he won three national "Best Actor" awards, including anOrlando (the Croatian equivalent of a Tony) for his portrayal of "Hamlet" at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. His other theatre credits include Les Fourberies de Scapin, Le Ecole Des Femmes, Miss Julie, Ivanov, The Brothers Karamazov, and Le Baruffe Chizotte.
