What do you think from your life experiences?
Yes, women do have that and it fully explains phenomena such as "feminism" (we want to have peanuses too!)
Yes, in a greater or smaller extent, it does exist in women
Women, do envy men, in a smaller or lesser extent, but i dont think it has anything to do with a "peanus envy", allegorically or practically
No, women have their own special ways of thinking and comprehending the environment, and their reactions, points and positions are only influenced by their own inner self and their unique needs, they dont have anything to do with men
What do you think from your life experiences?
Well, my lifetime experience as a male and English speaker suggests there is no 'Peanus'. Now, a penis is another matter. I know I have one, not sure about anyone else.
I think Freud was a fraud.
I think Freud's theories of Penis Envy and the Oedipal Complex are bizarre and unverified to this date.Originally Posted by Siegfried Augustus
However - I think his observations on the role of the unconscious mind in behavior are quite good. What people consider "meaningful" socially is only a small amount of actual human behavior, and Freud's attempts to explain "irrational" (i.e., behavior deemed "meaningless" by society) mistakes and so on in terms of real motivation are quite good.
In other words, we humans define social discourse along very narrow lines. Structured sentences, logical thoughts, verbal logic in general are considered "true" or relevant, whereas jokes, slips of the tongue, etc are ignored as meaningful discourse. Of course, jokes and slips of the tongue can be incredibly revealing about real inner feelings not expressed in mainstream discourse.
I've also noticed the same with jerks, unintentional motions of the body, etc. Often when people "accidentally" bump one another they are in fact expressing aggressive tendencies.
I think the idea of ego and id is a little atomistic. I prefer to view things from a wholistic approach that sees the individual as a unit of society, and not society as a collection of individuals. So instead of ego and id, I'd say maybe accepted/mainstream and covert.
And since we are discussing psychology I wlll also mention that I have been contemplating humans as esssentially social - instead of atomistic individual egos as modern society miscasts us. So feelings, attitudes and even identity aren't really an expresion of the individual - they are instead a relation of that person to society, and only derive meaning from society. Hence much of "humanity" is above the level of mere individuals - it exists only as a "systems phenomena" of masses of people.
I think the idea of the individual ego is false and misleading - it's created a humanity that is unnaturally alienated and lacks direction and cohesion - which can only be found collectively, not individually.

Up to this point, I agree. I do, however, think that Freud approaches the inner workings of the unconscious in a way I find appalling; penis envy and the Oedipal Complex are good examples of Freud's disturbing outlook on humanity.Originally Posted by Scoob

This is why Fascism was so popular in the early 20th century. I think the human need for belonging to a coherent collective was distracted by Consumerism and a lot of social chaos in the 20th century USA. The atomized suburbia of the USA is also a contributing factor. Marx noticed these tendencies in 19th century Europe, and blamed Capitalism. I don't know what's to blame, but it's happened, to the detriment of modern man.I agree. I think humans find their highest expression within collectives.

What is P.E. Anus envy? You mean envying people who got the hemorrhoids in gym class?
Seriously, I never wanted a penis and I still don't. I wouldn't be able to decide boxers or briefs.
Wait a moment! If the male organ isn't spelled 'Peanus'.... then, what the hell is in tha can I just bought!?! :eek
Great replies guys, I just bumped this thread so I can return to it tomorrow when my brain begins functioning.
Interesting thread......coincidently my company is VENUS ENVY.
The only penis envy I have ever come across is between male porn stars jealous of each others attachments........and the women too are envious of them in so far as the want the larger ones
......sorry folks size does matter

Freud......was a nut bag trying to superimpose his mental problems onto others...not every mental illness is caused by some sexual trigger, except in the mind of Freud.....that was his mental illness.
Politics is where we send the mediocre people so they can feel vaguely consequential and when they say ''His Excellency or The Honourable Minister", They really mean "This Prick here"
