    What Does 'Account Inactive' Mean?

What is the significance of Account Inactive? I use to think it meant a permaban, but that is not the always the case. And there are some people who are permabanned without account inactive.

Account inactive can either mean a permanent ban or a temporary ban.

But why are some set to inactive & others not? Is it just a preference of the mod who disables the account? I always took it to mean something more severe then a regular ban. Like a scarlet letter.

There´re different means to ban a person. We have an auto-ban system (when users reach the 10-point infraction limit) and a manual system.

How does one know where they stand? I imagine I have a few offenses under my belt. A while back I wanted to post a White-looking Turk on the anthropological taxonomy section, and recently I used another forum name in one of my posts in a defamatory way. Can long standing good behavior undo damage done by a few silly mistakes?

Sure, because received infractions expire after some time. Details regarding the specific expiring date are visible to you in your profile.

If we decide to directly perm-ban someone then there´s no expiring date, of course.

'Account Inactive' can mean anything, and with members banned via the ModCP it will be at least a secondary usergroup (though in some cases, it has been granted that the displayed primary usergroup be for instance "Funding Member", in appreciation of long-term membership and contribution)

'Account Inactive' can mean either a temporary or a permanent ban, and I understand where it may be difficult for the membership to comprehend what is what. I know this from forums where I am not a member of Staff but simply a Regular and it'd sometimes be easier to know whether your favourite posters are returning or not.

In either instance, it is always best to correspond with an active member of Staff privately as to whether a member is banned temporarily or permanently; publically this will not be done as it is against Skadi Forum's intention to publically shame its outlaws, but privately a concerned Mod or Admin will usually be able to relate at least in brief about how and why a member has been temporarily or permanently banned. PM is the appropriate method to address this.
-In kalte Schatten versunken...

(Heimdalls Wacht, In kalte Schatten versunken, stanzas 4-6)
