I do like a certain brand of candle..am I allowed to say brand names here? (I`ll remove it if not, it`s Yankee Candles)
but they are horrendously expensive, at least over here.

Yup, I`m not a neat freak and like best what Maelstrom describes as "well maintained mess" though have found that the house got miraculously tidy the day after my youngest daughter moved out to get married! So have come to the conclusion, it`s kids, men and dogs that make the most mess.
Though, re the dishes washing thing...every time I managed to get a man to wash the dishes, he made such a bad job of it, I believe they do it deliberately so we won`t ask them to do it again!
    "man-tricks", tsk...

Oh, yes. Men are good at that. Kids also. I have come to the conclusion that men learn that trick in their childhood.

I learnt that trick too it works, the last person round to my house took over the washing up! Then accused me of back seat washing lol

I am glad to read that you also like house keeping. I keep my house neat and tidy all the time. Before I go to bed, I make sure everything is picked up and its place. I like to get up to a tidy house. I read one time where a woman said she was "house proud," I guess I am. I had a new friend come to my house recently, and she looked all around and said "Does your house always look like this?" And I said yes. It would be upsetting to me to have a messed up house. I wasn't taught a thing, I just learned that was the way I wanted to live after I had a house of my own. I add a lot to my house, I like antiques and old things. I have refinished several pieces of furniture, and even cane wove bottoms for my old chairs. That is kind of fun, once you get the hang of it. If I lived in a log cabin, I would keep it the same. When I worked 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and spent quite awhile on the road, my house was always in great shape, so they don't need to say they don't have time to do it.
    I enjoy my house work.

Great fun post. I've enjoyed sitting here reading all of your comments while sipping my coffee and hearing my floors shout out: "Come wash me!" What can I say? I have my priorities eh given that I'm still sitting here and posting something. Ha!

A robot for me? Nahhh, said robot would be at the curbside within a week...technology and I do not make good mates. And really I can't complain because I have a wonderful hubby who does laundry and cooks and does dishes. Thank you, you wonderful man!

I too like to decorate, make our home, well just homey. I like to change the decorations with the seasons and have nice scented candles too. Oooo yes I too love Yankee Candles (also have been to their spot in South Deerfield Mass., USA a long while ago...a very nice spot to visit if you're ever in the neighbourhood). In fact I just bought some of their candles a couple of days ago: Mistletoe fragrance, Balsam and Cedar, Lilac (I know it's not for winter...it's for later when winter is long and won't go away and I'm pining away for my lilacs to bloom) and a free one (yes free imagine that!) called Christmas Eve.

But I like the idea of a well-maintained mess...sometimes ours gets a bit out of hand with my books all over the floor as I'm researching something, or our son's hockey bag taking up most of the room in the front hall, or my hubby's meadmaking paraphernalia hanging out in the kitchen. But what the heck, as I am often reminded by my friends: "I've come to visit you, not your house." Thank the gods for good understanding friends!

    Frith...Aemma

It sounds as if you have a happy and comfortable home. That is what really counts.
I have been into candles lately too, and am enjoying them. I even like to sit down at my old walnut table of an evening and have tea, and I light one of my many candles, and turn out the lights. Very enjoyable.
I have always loved lavender anything, soap, body wash, hand cream, etc. I found where I could buy a pound of it on Ebay (16 cups), and I have really had fun making sachets with it. I like to have one on my pillow when I go to bed at night.
    I enjoyed your article.

I am by no means, a neat and tidy person. I would like to have a nice, tidy house, but............that's not my personality to keep up with it. I mostly keep up with the dishes, but that's about it. My sister in law's mother refuses to come to my house because of all of the dust piles, and cobwebs in the ceiling. It's okay. I don't care too much for her anyway. lol

Sure housework can be slightly fulfilling when you sit down with a nice clean house but I much rather prefer the fulfilment I get after I've solved an uber-hard maths problem or when i've got 100% in a History exam... Of course being a homemaker and bringing up lots of children is something I would enjoy and whatever, but I would enjoy also adding something constructive to the world, whether in technological advances, political advances or whatever. I like to cook, but I also like to go out and make money and I think I'm better at the making money thing tbh

The technology is making every one's lives more better. even the housewives don't bother more to clean the rooms now they are relying on the robotic vacuum cleaners.

If I were a man and walked into my prospective wife's home and saw it was unclean and messy, I would turn right around and leave while counting my blessings I never married her.
Not all in life is at it appears to be.
