    Ritual Attire

So, what do you wear for ritual attire?

There are definite pros and cons to all options. For blots that occur in doors, which is usually the case with our family blots that are tied to big meals , I'll adopt a semi-formal attire. For outdoor blots, which are usually done in tandem with a camping trip, I'll usually be, out of necessity, in more rugged clothing. Finally, for my more private, esoteric practices, I don a robe, in part to set the mood, but mostly for comfort, which I find to be all important when doing anything approaching a trance.

Sadly, I am the only person in my area that believes in the gods that is not a member of a hate organization, so I do not have the opportunity to participate in blots or kindreds. The closest thing to a ritual I have performed is leaving offerings for the gods such as food and meaningful objects and carving runic messages describing my personal experiences with the gods into fallen pieces of wood. I never plan an outfit for this type of thing though.

Does Thor Steinar gear count as "casual or as "period Germanic", albeit the period of the early 21st century?

Anyways my blots these days are informal affairs conducted under the cover of normal drinking parties with old friends who are only loosely heathen. The prison Odinist who introduced me to Asatru is back in prison, and the formal kindreds I am aware of are either too NS or too new agey for my comfort.

Those are the only types of groups I know of too. I hate the modern groups that it seem like some sort of witchcraft with "spells" and such. I just want a traditional group that doesn't view the gods as an extension of the Christian "God" and that doesn't attempt to ask anything of the gods without offering anything back to them.

I have friends that wear ritual attire, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I've always gone "casual" or with outdoor wear, sometimes very loosely fitting clothing depending on what type of ritual or meditation I'm doing. Others have touched on it in their responses, it is more about the people and the feelings involved rather than the clothing. That said, we aren't in the 10th century and I feel very little reason to dress up in order to get me into the mindset or mood. Currently, we have one kindred here that goes with ritual attire for the gothi, one kindred and a hearth that go casual regardless.

I believe traditional, elaborate attire is necessary only when partaking in a group (of at least two) ceremony. I wear my normal clothing, but selected 'other' because I wear a world serpent pendant at all times. My power animal is a snake, and the Jormungandr image (as seen in my avatar) symbolises cyclicality and rejuvenation. I feel that this is all I need.

I wear loose clothing and I wear a large blanket around my shoulders and tuck it under my shins because when I meditate on my mantra my body goes very cold and my breathing slows right down.

It is as though I die for a few minutes and I love it.

For just close family blots (the 3 of us), we wear our casual clothing; for blots involving our one Heathen family friends, we wear something a bit dressier (since we are either receiving them in our home or are going to theirs). But there again, it is pretty scaled down "Sunday best" as it were.

I think wearing some kind of ritual garb is great. I'm just not sure yet what it is that I would like to don that would be special and meaningful when I lead our blots at home. Oh well, I'm sure it'll come to me eventually.

whatever i'm wearing at the time of ritual usually casual but if im in a full out tux thats cool too

and to some of the above posted i wish there was any one here that honored the Norse pantheon my town is predominantly protestant and catholic and as for pagans 99% of the time their wiccan

and although i'm national socialist i keep religion in a higher regards than politics and don't involve it in my honoring of the gods
