Religion always had strong communal effects. The commonual practice of religious rituals enforces the ties in a society. Like psychonaut said the present vieuw that religion is something that should only exist in someone home/head is a modern vieuw and part of the continous atomisation of our society.

Or should it be enforced by the state or encouraged in some way, like by having an official religion?
I don't think it is the task of the state to dictate theology.

Should it be taught in schools?
The situation here in the Netherlands is probaly best. Where there are secular public schools and special schools, most of have a religious grounding. So the parents have a choice where to send their childeren to and more older students what kind of school/univeristy to attend.

It is and it's not. I don't mind a person's religion, as long as it falls in a larger Germanic and European scope.
People who turn Islamist for example, can't be real Germanic nationalists anymore. Islam is a religion which isn't compatible with nationalism. So religions which are too foreign, or even anti-Germanic shouldn't be regarded on the same level with the rest.

My Christian faith is personal to me. I don't approve of the 'progressive' direction established religion is headed in. And when someone asks me what sect I belong to, I simply reply that I'm a Christian and leave it at that.

Modern liberals try to reduce religion to a trinket and say things like "Why does it matter what god someone believes in?" Sometimes the answer is that they want to kill people who don't believe as they do, sometimes they believe in raping girls who don't dress like they want them to, sometimes they want all stores closed on Sunday.
