    Post Re: Led Zepplin?

Led Zepplin was a 1970's rock and roll band--or was it? I got a big flash kids, there was not rock after 1970. It all died, dead. Nobody was listening to Led (should read "Dead") Zepplin so they did the Stairway to Heaven thing. That is not R&R, nice but not rock. Since then they have billed themselves as heavy metal, R&B and probably even tried the New Wave thing--who knows--who cares.

A fascinating thread about my favourite band

Just dealing with the above comments (..albeit from a log time ago):

Nobody was listening to 'Dead' Zeppelin

Their first two albums were released in 1969 and they were already HUGE before Stairway to Heaven was even recorded!

Below are the stats for their second album. The numbers represent the position it reached in charts across the world, beginning with the UK & USA ...

Yes, and particularly the lead singer's vocals.

It's almost as if he's trying to emulate Robert Plant.

Not sure what I was listening to then but here is Jimmy Page's guitar solo from STH (..I chose one of my favourites ) and if this ain't rock could somebody tell me what it's supposed to be??

I accept that 'rock' is a loose term that can cover a whole range of music. Defining it would make a worthwhile thread in its own right - I might even start one up!
