Death in June manage to produce some good folk, but can be a bit hit & miss at times. Early stuff is a bit like Joy Division latter stuff a bit more folky.

I had a tape of theirs, had some really good classics like DEATH OF THE WEST but some really crappy stuff too like cats screaching, maybe it was a different singer but much as I like cats I can't see much merit in someone trying to sound like one either intentionally or not.

WE DRIVE EAST is a good one too.

Mother Destruction were OK too, only heard a few of their songs, very Asatru orientated, might download some stuff if I find any.

I downloaded some stuff by NON, bloody hell, that's good.... not. Didn't reckon much to that at all, sonded like my vacuum cleaner some of it..... mmmmm, not my thing really.

This to me has ALWAYS presented a dilemma
Well, why? All rock is rooted in blues, and even white power rock bands owe everything to the old Black blues guys.

And furthermore, it didn't actually help the Black blues men that many of their songs were ripped of without any credit given to them, rather the contrary.

    Edit:

Oh, and here are the Viking lyrics to No Quarter:

Close the doors, put out the light
You know they won't be home tonight
The snow falls hard and don't you know
The winds of Thorburn are blowing cold
They're wearing steel that's bright and true
They carry news that must get through
They choose the path where no-one goes
    They hold no quarter,
    They ask no quarter.

Walking side by side with death
The devil mocks their every step
The snow drives back the foot that's slow
The dogs of doom are howling more
They carry news that must get through
To build a dream for me and you
They choose the path that no one goes
They hold no quarter, they ask no quarter

Yeah, I wrote that post a long time ago, when I was still feeling 'conflicted' about liking black music. I've long since stopped feeling guilty about it. I like blues, rock and roll, and even some R&B and funk.

Ah, ok, i just thought i had to defend my favourite band (even though Jimmy Page has a tendency to screw around with mulattos half his age).

And remember, folks, this "Black music" couldn't have existed without white instruments.

The Immigrant Song is a song written after Led Zep's concert in Iceland in june 1970. The song is in fact about "The land of the midnight sun" wich is Iceland. The immigrants were the heathen norwegians who immigrated Iceland.
"I have reached these lands but newly
    From an ultimate dim Thule
From a wild weird clime, that lieth, sublime,
Out of SPACE — out of TIME
    ."
    Edgar Allan Poe

Led Zeppelin lovers have also a Jewish manager:
I think they must be confusing him with Brian Epstein, manager of the Beatles.

I have never heard of Peter Grant being Jewish by any other source.

    Post Re: Led Zepplin?

A timeless amazing Band, Favourite songs of mine include "communication breakdown" "dazed and Confused" hell basiclly the entire first album, i have a 1969 original Vinyl of it

I also am obsessed by "over the hills and far away" "Song remains the same" "Houses of the Holy" "Achilles last stand" "Misty Mountain Hop" "Going to california" too many to list really

The famous ones like Black Dog, Rock and Roll, and Since i been loving you do not raleey appeal to me as the nero influence is far to prominant,

As was stated earlier Negro music is played on European instruments,

But I suppose drums and bongos etc are african to a extent. and a repetitive rock "Beat" is indicitive of tribal African culture as european music tended not to have monotonous thumping beats behind the music.

But their generation was a lost generation ,they never were my musical heroes .My musical heroes were Skrewdriver, No Remorse and more WP bands.
That just goes to show you that it is not the message of songs that make them what they are. It is the music of them that makes us like them.

Think of the songs with messages you accept but the music is crap. And think of the songs where the music is great but you can't stand the message (or what the people stand for.)

It makes it so much better when you find a song in which you like the music and the words.
