At literature classes I was forced to read The Bluest Eyes by Toni Morrison then write an essay about it. The teacher made out as if that was a masterpiece.
Other worst books I've read are The Color Purple by Alice Walker, New Age and Armaggedon by Monica Sjöö.
A lot of modern novels are SJW stories that I stop reading.

I'd say pretty much any school history book is pretty bad fiction

All Stieg Larsson (deceased Swedish Communist) books, including the ghostwritten ones.
'Well, what are you?" said the Pigeon. "I can see you're trying to invent something!" "I-I'm a little girl," said Alice, rather doubtfully. She found herself at last in a beautiful garden, among the bright flower-beds and the cool fountains.

I don't know if I would call it the worst book I ever read but it's a book I regret buying. I threw it out.

"Never Be Lied To Again", by Dave Barry (turned out he is a comedian).

I tried googling for it just now but can't find it. Instead there is a book for sale with the same title by a David J. Lieberman, PH.D.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Never-Be-Li...-/273495725696

It looks like the same cover so maybe I'm remembering the wrong author.
