What's the Worst Book You've Read?

What's the worst book you've read? Fiction or non-fiction.

The worst non- Norwegian book I've read is

    My Life By: Bill Clinton

The title '' My Life'' is very hilarious
Jeg er over gjennomsnittet bitter, og liker stort sett ingen andre enn meg selv

I don't think I have one because if I find that a book is bad, I don't read it through :p

Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs.

Time magazine voted this among it's 100 greatest books of the 20th century. So perhaps my appreciation of the "finer things" is in need of further development because I found the non-stop graphic descriptions of imprisonment, torture, sadism and death, at least within the first 30 pages, (which was as far as I got) just too much for the exercise to be worthwhile. I put the volume down and felt a great sense of relief as I did so.

If you intend to read this book I would advise you to "approach it with extreme caution", sit in a chair you can't easily fall out of should you faint from horror and disgust and stay near the bathroom, you may need to throw up in a hurry.

    *And you think I'm kidding?*

I had to read some pretty bad ones throughout school. They are considered 'excellent' by someone, who or why, I don't know.

'Waiting for Godot' by Samuel Beckett. WTF is this thing about? It was beyond retarded.

'The Old Man and the Sea' by Ernest Hemingway. Extremely lame, boring book. Why the hell is this guy considered so awesome?

Something by Maya Angelou. It sucked...badly.

This one I picked up on my own:

A fantasy novel (not an overly famous one, don't remember title or author). Went on for 500 pages (out of 600+) as a normal (and rather good) fantasy journey/quest novel...started to get weirder...and turned into a gay incest story for the last 100-150 pages  (I don't think I finished reading all the way to the end)

A dishonorable mention to whatever translation of the Niebelungenlied I read. I could tell it was a good story, but the way it was written was so terrible as to be unreadable, entirely out of sequence chronologically, just all around awful, I couldn't finish it, as much as I wanted to. Maybe I'll try to find a better translation one of these days.

There are more books worth reading that one can readf in a lifetime, so you shouldn't waste time forcing yourself top finish bad books.

I have to admit that I have read Naked Lunch, though. Let me paraphrase Samuli Knuuti, Finland's best pop music and literature critic: "William S. Burrough says he does not remember writing Naked Lunch, which is appropiate because I do not remember reading it. What little I can recall reminds me of staring at a gutter for six hours -- watching the muck pass you by, with only the occasional candy wrapper or cigarette packet to liven things up".

There where a lot of suggestive writting, misleading statements. And hardly any revieuw of counterarguments. Nor treatment of high raking and influental members with different ideas. And actualy latter on in revieuw of it in Tyr 3 I learned it was like I tought a deliberate piece of junk. Why did I finished, because I believe one should be familair with what the other side claims.

Yep, in Public High School they gave some of the worst Leftist books to read. I actually refused to read this book called "Native Son". And never went back to the classroom again. It was pro-Socialist and Interracialism, written by a communist black author(insults the meaning of author imo).

    The worst book I've read

Unquestionably, The "Glorious" Qur'an. It has to be the most tedious screed ever committed to paper, or any other material. I inflicted it upon myself three times by reading three different translations .

I cannot read Arabic and I wanted to be sure that the translation was a faithful one. I decided that if several different translations agreed on all essential points, they were probably accurate, or, as much so as writings by sinners damned to hell could be.

It is a very serious sin for a Muslim to translate the "Glorious" Qur'an into a foreign language because "The Glorious Qur'an was given to mankind in plain Arabic so that all might read and understand." eyes:

It is a common practise in Middle Eastern languages to emphasize a point by (endless !) repetition. This is done in the Old Testament and carried to an extreme in the Qur'an. No only are phrases and sentences repeated. WHOLE SURAS [chapters] are repeated.

I have often called the "Glorious" Qur'an "The Book of Threats". It is rife with threats, so much so, that it is hard to open it at random to a page that does NOT have a threat on it. If the Prophet isn't threatening backsliders, he's threatening infidels or heretics, and always in the same phraseology.

I have often urged those who have not done so to "READ THE QUR'AN !" to learn the Muslim's agenda. It's not an easy task, though. Whoever undertakes it has my sympathy.

Not a book, but just a response to Gorm's post.

I have found this useful in interpreting the Koran.
