'Reductio Ad Hitlerum'

Quote:
'Reductio ad Hitlerum'

"The propagators of the new religion of the holocaust are not actually interested in the sufferings of the Jews but in the destruction of every good thing that can be tarred with the Nazi brush: Lutheran and Catholic Christianity, patriotism and the affection for one's own people and traditions, conventional morality, traditional art and literature.

"Leo Strauss called it the reductio ad Hitlerum. If Hitler liked neoclassical art, that means that classicism in every form is Nazi; if Hitler wanted to strengthen the German family, that makes the traditional family (and its defenders) Nazi; if Hitler spoke of the "nation" or the "folk," then any invocation of nationality, ethnicity, or even folkishness is Nazi ..."

-- Thomas Fleming, editor, Chronicles (Rockford, Illinois), May 2000, p. 11.

Interesting, before I saw this quote I always thought something like this... if Hitler or the Nationalsocialists liked something, it's viewed as a "nazi" thing and so a bad thing. If someone wants to intimidate a politically correct opponent, he will compare his ideas to Hitler or Nationalsocialism.

Grin

from the 'stuff white people like' blog

Quote:
Comparing People to Hitler

By Isaac “Absent” Amirian

Being a truly advanced white person means being able to speak with authority about pretty much any field of conversation- especially politics. In order for white people to streamline the process of knowing everything, all human beings can be neatly filed into one of two categories: People I Agree With, and People Who are Just Like Adolf Hitler.

Comparing people to Hitler is an easy way for white people to get a strong point across to the less enlightened, or the insufficiently white. Everyone knows who Adolf Hitler was. And everyone knows that Hitler was very, very bad. Therefore, if a white person really, REALLY, doesn’t like something or someone, he or she may angrily say something to the effect of, “This is exactly the same kind of thing that Hitler used to do!” accompanied by varying levels of profanity based on blood-alcohol content. No matter what your gut reaction may be at that point, do not disagree with that white person. Otherwise, well, you love Hitler.

This time-tested white-person maneuver may seem so awesomely useful to you that you are tempted to go out and try it right now. Not so fast. White people have spent the last 30 years perfecting this technique. There are cultural guidelines.

It’s also critical that you avoid the fatal mistake of getting creative and comparing people you don’t like to other evil dictators, such as Joseph Stalin or Fidel Castro. With few exceptions, white people are actually fond of almost any dictator not named Hitler, and your remark that “this is just like something Mao Zedong would do” will be met with blank stares and possible social alienation. This is because, with the exception of Hitler, oppressive dictators share a passion for many of the things white people love- such as universal health care, conspiracy theories, caring about poor people while being filthy rich, and cool hats. Stick to the script and compare things you don’t like to Hitler, and Hitler alone.

Now, like most reasonable people, you might find this strategy distasteful, and even a bit disrespectful, since after all, Hitler was responsible for the deaths of tens of millions, and probably doesn’t have that much in common with Pat Robertson, in perspective. If you prefer to avoid hearing or using the Hitler technique, we recommend you speak in soothing, affirming tones around angry white people to prevent the phenomenon from manifesting, and change the subject tactfully. To something that doesn’t involve George
W. Bush.

I've seen this kind of tactics: if someone wants to win an argument, he compares something to national socialism. Unfortunately most people fall for it, since they wouldn't want to be associated with the "devil ideology" itself.

A puzzling way to win an argument

Love it!

I always thought the way to win folks to your way of thinking was to give them REASONS that would convince them your view is correct. But this does seem to be the new wave in political arguments - if someone doesn't agree with you, call them names, compare them to Hitler, claim they slept with the babysitter, say they once had a beer with a lesbian - whatever it takes. No more appealing to the rational nature of the public. We now assume the basest of allegations are what attracts the common man. So sad that it often plays out that way.

Cool

As a "British" National Socialist, I am constantly confronted with "the Nazi Ghost". I simply dismiss it with a simple statement:

"The policies of a particular government from the last century are of no interest to me; I consider only what is relevant to the here and now. Do not ascribe others actions to me, and do not tell me what I do or do not think! Rather, ask and you will be informed correctly instead of resorting to baseless strawman arguements."

Also, I am told that my fore-fathers fought against National Socialism, to which I reply:

"My Grandfathers fought against a country, not an idea. That the Germany of WWII was National Socialist is entirely coincidental. My Grandparents were serving their country and not an ideology."

What's more, your grandfathers certainly didn't fight in order to enslave the UK to the EU. That's a handy reminder to those who spew pro-EU / multikulti nonsense.

"If Hitler enjoyed Wagner's music, then Wagner must have been the very first national socialist." Though I believe, if patriotic Wagner saw where Hitler had brought his country, he would be the first to protest.
