  1. Important!  AW: Difference between Baltid/East Baltid/West Baltid?

I don't have the book at the moment, but I think it's just the average of the Andronovo culture, i.e. quite Cromagnid, with other influences.
  2. Important!  AW: Re: AW: Difference between Baltid/East Baltid/West Baltid?

The title is V.V. Bunak, "Rassengeschichte Osteuropas" from the series "Rassengeschichte der Menschheit", edited by Ilse Schwidetzky. Vol 4, "Europa II: Ost- und Nordeuropa", 1976.

    It's dealing...
  3. Important!  AW: Difference between Baltid/East Baltid/West Baltid?

Visigodo, from when exactly is this work of Bunak you're citing?
I'm just asking because I've gathered that he has modified his views very much from his early beginnings to his later works.

    I've...
  4. AW: Blood linkage?

I would say it's mostly genetic, but also slightly influenced by the environment. Children don't have to look like their parents btw, often they tend to resemble one of the grandparents. So, for...
  5. AW: Vedr: Please some commentary - regarding flat rear skulls?

Pontids are not really planoccipital (flat rear-headed), but it's true that their occiput isn't very projecting.

Taurids are not a distinct type besides the Dinarids, but they are a general...
  6. AW: Heaviest Concentration of Alpines

Here an improved version of my Swiss map.

  7. AW: Re: Heaviest Concentration of Alpines

So, how do you explain the fact that other parts of France have certain average properties (in face index, nose index, cephalic index etc, etc.) that deviate more or less from the definition of an...
  8. AW: Heaviest Concentration of Alpines

In Switzerland the most Alpinid areas are 1, 5 and 6 on this map:

    http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/6008/1110rc.png

I've drawn in the areas with the tallest and the shortest average...
  9. AW: Heaviest Concentration of Alpines

According to a relatively recent study from 1974 using comparatively fresh statistical data, the Northwest of France, including Brittany, is the place where a low facial index overlaps with a short...
  10. AW: Differences between large/prominent Europid and non-Europid noses

    Here some data from Bunak:

Percentage of concave noses / percentage of upturned noses

    Vepses 41 / 51
    Votes 40
    East Karelians 40
Eastern Finns 40 (source was Pesonen 1937)
    Estonians 37,2...
  11. AW: Re: Differences between large/prominent Europid and non-Europid noses

    Funny, you're sounding like Holger.

Anyway, imo (having read Bunak's data and conclusions) the Savolaxid type is more typical for NW-Russia, the Tavastid type more for Eastern Estonia/Latvia...
  12. AW: Re: AW: Differences between large/prominent Europid and non-Europid noses

There's a problem: The second pic doesn't show up.
  13. AW: Differences between large/prominent Europid and non-Europid noses

There the almost philosophical question arises who or what exactly determines the correct meaning of a word. Really, I don't doubt that most posters here associate Europid with aboriginal to Europe....
  14. AW: Differences between large/prominent Europid and non-Europid noses

    Just some corrections:

Europid doesn't mean European/ of European ancestry. It means the same as Caucasoid. And Armenids, Arabids etc are Europid too (What elso should they be? Negrid?? Black?)....

How are we to explain our personal continuity? If we suppose that we are identical to our brains, then we're existing as long as the brain does exist. Superficially this seems to be a very clear...

    Important! Poll! Death/Our Personal Continuity

I think it's not really clear from the onset if our biological death is the end of our conscious existence or not. But we could just decide that by "death" and "mortality" we mean the end of our...
  19. Soul Merging and Splitting (Esoteric Mysticism)

Who in here believes that individual souls can merge into one soul and that souls can split into individual daughter souls?

To most people it sounds awfully nonsensical at first sight, but in fact...

From the fact that the experience in some dreams and also in some drug induced trips feels exactly as "real" as the perception of what we call reality, it follows that everything I perceive in life,...
  21. Why Zen-Buddhism can't be grasped

According to zen buddhism (but also to some other religious and philosophical traditions) there are no persons, only experiences. So one could say that they think that all there is are perceptions,...

Re: Cephalic Index and Facial Index

There's no general rule; the head length is defined as the direct distance between Glabella and Opisthocranium, and the Opisthocranium is defined as the point that is most distant from the Glabella...

    Re: Young Nordic Females

It's a pity the pics have been lost. Because I suppose that the majority of the depicted girls haven't been really textbook Nordics... Obviously many men seem to fancy blondes, but it's a commonplace...

Re: Cephalic Index and Facial Index

On the living the classes of cephalic indices are one unit higher, thus brachycephalicy there starts with 81, mesocephalicy with 76.

Further it has to be noted that the correlation between...

Poll! Re: Whats your body type?

According to the test I'm a mesomorph, but I would rather describe me as a pyknic (and hence endomorph). Perhaps with some slight mesomorphic characteristics, but only slight ones. The test doesn't...
