Title Icelandic horse
Description The Icelandic horse is a breed of horse that has lived in Iceland since the mid-800s AD, having been brought to the island by Viking settlers. The Icelandic Horse originated from breeds taken from Scandinavian and European countries to Iceland during the original and subsequent settlements but has now been bred for centuries without the addition of outside bloodstock.

What a life! Lucky horse.

PS- how in the world did they get those horses to keep calm on the boats?

That can't be Iceland. I don't think they have woods there. There are fan breeders of Iceland ponies throughout the world though. Iceland has an ancient viking law that no Iceland horse that has been abroad can return home so as not to contaminate the original breed.

I believe they do have forests in Iceland. The forrest in Fagrahlíð is the oldest natural birch forrest in Iceland. According to my reading, it is believed to have been untouched, perhaps an indication of what Iceland was like before the Vikings came.

Yeah, I know there is a dwarf arctic willow that grows even up in Greenland. I saw a documentary where they reckoned the Norse of Greenland went extinct on the account of loss of soil fertility brought on by the loss of the willow holding in nutrients and stopping erosion. Among other things.
I'm sure I read somewhere that Iceland was similarly wooded once though I can't remember where I read it, probably in a saga.
I also think there is the death penalty in Iceland (just joking) for cutting down a tree.
