If you are new on Skadi, there are a few limitations before reaching the 15 post requirement to become promoted to juniors. One such limitation are custom avatars.

You can however -- and are actually encouraged to -- choose an avatar from the hundreds in our predefined gallery (https://forums.skadi.net/profile.php?do=editavatar). We have a wide range of avatars with Germanic motives, whether folk & family, history, Germanic heathenry, national and regional symbols, nature and landscapes, architecture, art, science & anthropology and many more. Browse through our options and you should find a motive suitable to your background, lifestyle and beliefs. Although some motives may be recurring, there is a wide range and variety or images what makes for a diversified choice and improbability for multiple members all sharing the same avatar.

This option is also available for juniors, regulars, funding members and even staff, should you feel uninspired or simply curious to browse through our gallery, you may also find a suitable avatar.

All our avatars are resized to the standard so you only need to tick the box for your desired avatar and it will be transferred to your profile.

If there is a certain motive not available or you would just like to contribute to our avatar database feel free to send your images to a staff member, ideally an admin. They must be resized to the maximum standard of 200 x 250 px (or less) and ideally the title of the image must be descriptive, i.e. it should contain a name or keyword, so that it is easier for us to upload it. Formats may be jpg. or .png, though .jpg is preferable.

I have been noticing there are many members who don't include an avatar in their profiles. Why is this? I am wondering, is it because they don't want one, or maybe because they aren't aware the option of an avatar exists, don't know how to use it, or don't have a suitable picture they'd like?

So, in case you are a member who doesn't know how to add an avatar, this option exists if you go to user control panel and edit your avatar:

I encourage members to upload avatars. They give you a distinct identity in the eyes of the other members, they make the forum look nicer, more colourful and lively. If you don't have a good picture, there are some predefined avatars which you can use from many categories: Germanic history, heathenry, families, landscapes, animals, and other. Or, you can ask here what kind of theme you would prefer for your avatar and maybe some of us can find you something. :)

I think avatars are wonderful! I'm ready for a new one now. I viewed the Gallery here on Skadi and I really like Daniel F. Gerhartz's work. Would it be "stealing" to use one as an avatar?

No, I doubt that. Almost everyone is "stealing" avatars from somewhere else. Just use it! :)
