25th Anniversary of Faroese Nordic House

The Nordic House in the Faroe Islands opened in 1983. A new extension building, Athøll, which has been financed in a partnership between the Nordic Council of Ministers, Mentamálaráðið, Tórshavn City Council and the ‘A.P. Møller og Hustru Chastine Mærsk Mckinney Møllers fond til Almene Formaal’, will be opened in connection with the 25th anniversary. The extension building will facilitate the attraction of several international conferences to the Faroe Islands.

The anniversary will celebrated with a show featuring music, dance, design and film on Friday evening. About 340 guests from the entire Nordic Region and the Faroe Islands will attend. There will be a performance of a cantata, written specially for this occasion, with lyrics by Rói Patursson, who won the Nordic Council’s Literature Prize in 1986, and music by Kári Bæk.

Niels Halm is the seventh director of the house since it opened. He views the Nordic House as a representative for both tradition and innovation:

"The Nordic House has played an active role during the last 25 years in communicating Nordic culture on the Faroe Islands and Faroese culture both at home and abroad. This remains the core focus of our activities, but, at the same time, the Nordic House is taking on new assignments which will help to develop and renew the house".
