View Full Version : How to Insert (YouTube) Videos into Your Posts

Saturday, August 4th, 2007, 06:56 AM
You can now integrate and play youtube videos into/from posts. To add a youtube video, simply click on the http://forums.skadi.net/images/editor/youtube.gif button in the editor. A prompt will appear asking you to enter the option for your youtube tag. Here you will enter the name of the video you wish to post. Next, the youtube tags will appear in the text field. Now it's time to add your video. Find the url of your desired video and place the video ID between the youtube tags. For example, if the URL is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UztEfwHt14, paste only this part: 6UztEfwHt14.

Yeah, when you click the button, it's asking for the custom title you assign to the header (for example, "My video for Althing"). Once the Youtube code is in the message box, then you paste the video reference into the tags. Took me a while to figure it out :o

The title for YouTube videos seems a bit redundant now that YT automatically displays it within the video screen.

Thanks for this thread! I really needed this information. :)

Mostly but I don't think in all cases nonetheless. Because sometimes the videoauthors give bad titles which don't describe the videos well.

I should have searched for this thread before attempting a video post earlier this afternoon, but thanks to whoever fixed my post that didn't follow these guidelines! :)

Okay, I give up - how do you do this :confused

G Baughman:

You click the You Tube icon in the upper right hand corner of the posting screen. Then you type the title of the video in the user prompt. Then your cursor should be flashing cut and paste everything after the = sign in the URL

Do you see the = sign eveything after that goes between
the ]cut and paste here [

Which would be -Xu71i89xvs in this case.

Do not include the = sign

I hope this helps GB

1. Press the You Tube icon.

A tiny rectangular window should pop up saying:

‘Please enter the option for your tag:’

2. Type in the title of the You Tube video:

Ex: 'Iron Maiden - The Trooper'

Then press 'Okay'.

3. The rectangular window will disappear and your screen should look like this:

YOUTUBE="Iron Maiden - The Trooper"]

4.Return to the http//: address, which will look like this:

Click and copy from the little 'd' onward, like so:

(Remember to avoid copying the = sign to the left of the d!)

5. Return to Skadi and paste the d3Ak78uo0UA between the brackets, which should look like this:

YOUTUBE="Iron Maiden - The Trooper"]d3Ak78uo0UA[/YOUTUBE]

6. Preview, then submit.

I have tried inserting youtube links using the youtube button featured fourth from the right in control panel, but it does not show up. Any help?

Copy the title of the Youtube video you want to insert, click on the Youtube tag, paste the title & click "OK". Then copy the part of the URL for the video after v= & paste it between the Youtube brackets. For example a video I resonly posted: The title was "Holiday Brainwashing", the URL was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEsjYpZztxE, I copied & pasted the portion highlighted.

Here is a screenshot of this post after I embedded the video, this is how the code should be embedded.

There are differences in embedding Youtube videos at different Vbulletin fora, so don't be surprised if you have to do it differently at other forums.

Since the upgrade, vBulletin has added its own bbcode for video integration. To add a video, just click on the "Insert Video" button (top right corner of the editor) or use video tags as below:

paste complete video URL here

Supported formats include: Hulu, YouTube (Long), YouTube (Short), Vimeo, Dailymotion, Metacafe, Google, Facebook (Legacy), Facebook

The old [YOUTUBE] tags still work and we will keep them for the purpose of displaying old videos, although as the tag names suggest, they are limited to YouTube videos. We recommend using the [VIDEO] tags from now on.

I still don't understand how to do... When I input the code at the end of the Youtube URLs in the YT icon pop-up, it doesn't work. When I input the whole URL, it doesn't work also... How to enter a YT link in posts?

Saturday, September 15th, 2018, 11:08 AM
What you can enter in the popup and what is later shown as inside the brackets after the "Youtube=", is an own title. You don't have to enter one, so if you just click ok or cancel, you can simply put the code between the brackets. You have to enter the code after the = in the youtube link between the first closing and the second opening bracket, not inside.

So basically for this example link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdoZhyotehw, you take the xdoZhyotehw code and put it like this(without the space after the first bracket, obviously):

[ YOUTUBE=Own Title or nothing]xdoZhyotehw[/Youtube]

Seems like a lot of our members have problems with that. I did too, for a long time. We probably have a sticky for it somewhere, though.

Thanks. It seems we don't have any sticky so I moved this thread to Help & Suggestions.

We now have two possibilities to embed YT videos. The first is the old way, which Juthunge described. The second one is simpler, as vbulletin 4.x comes with an integrated embed video option. To add a video, click on the "Insert Video" button, as in the screenshot:

Next paste the full YT video url in the box:

Click ok. Alternatively, you can use [VIDEO] tags. This is how the bbcode should look like:

We've kept the first method available since we have a lot of YT videos using the old code. The new option also allows for other video formats like Facebook, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Metacafe etc.
