View Full Version : Examples of the average appearance found in each given nation

The linked thread below, urged me to start a thread, with the intention to find the Stereotypical representation of a given Nation, of what their population looks like, on average.
http://forums.skadi.net/showthread.php?t=80851

So, if we can do it for Europe, based on indigenous populations, what's the average appearance for each Nation?

So basically add a picture of someone you think most represents the given nation. Obviously, an Atlantid for Spain, A Nordid for Sweden, etc etc. But find a typical example for every European Country.

For England, I'm tempted to insert Hugh Grant

I'd say someone like Kelly Jones would be typical for the non-English influenced parts of Wales:

For Greece:

Unknown male (quite typical)

http://www.fotothing.com/photos/6f5/6f584de0a3b12aa936a245610cdcc02e.jpg

Model Evi Adam

http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/5417/adam8mi.jpg

There are great variations (more dinarid (http://www.wldcup.com/pictures/euro2004/58913.jpg), more nordid (http://dienekes.angeltowns.net/pictures/greekwomen/katerina_georgiadou.jpg), more alpinid (http://teflsmiler.typepad.com/weblog/images/kapsis.jpg), etc) that can be found in Greece, but I guess these two are quite representative of the average mediterranean Greek ;)

For Portugal, on average, not excluding many depigmented and more pigmented types:

;)

Average Female:

Edit: if you are wondering about the notes on this picture, they are:

A: medium pigmented to depigmented, according to exposure
B: very exposed to sunlight all year round, usually with freckles
C: Hip to Waist ratio (larger Hip, finer waist)
D: Dark Brown to very light brown hair, wavy

These are Dutch people. I think they both look really Dutch.

An I also think I am a good example of the average appearance amongst The Dutch.

He's 1/2 Irish at best.

If you want to get examples of national appearances then your best bet would be to look at a sports team (making sure they are national). Some people post their own idea of what they think people from a certain country is like.

Gilles Duceppe (Leader of the Quebec separation movement, whom I wholeheartedly support) seems to me more of an example of the German-Influenced Frenchman, seen above.

I think Thomas Kretschman is both typical and what you might call stereotypical for a German man. He is a square-jawed Nordid + Faelid mesomorph with a high-bridged nose.

I think Ben Affleck is also both typical and stereotypical for an average American. Tall, big-boned, yet rugged-featured Nordid-Atlantid mix which represents his English, Scottish, and Irish heritage. He looks like your typical middle- class American businessman. He also has this perpetual smirk which exudes smugness and arrogance.

You really can't form a solid average for Finns but I'll post some faces I think are adequate to be called common.

This might sound weird but we have a rather large eastern european immigrant community here (roughly around 260,000 immigrants), mostly from Russia and the Ukraine and usually Ukrainians (specially women) are blonder and more depigmented than Russians... any specific historical basis for that?

Those Ukrainians might be really Russians, and those Russians might be really Ukrainians or tatars. You can tell itfrom their surnames. Russians are usually brown-haired or dark-blond.

I don't know much about history, but (:P) Kievan Rus' was located where the Ukraine is now, and true Slavs were very blond. Kievan Rus' was the first Slavic state, I think.

What would be the racial and subracial classification for that Hungarian? I didn't know Hungarians commonly had that dark of a pigmentation.

Maybe "stereotypical appearance...." would be a more fitting title? I don't think these are averages as such are they? :scratch

Alpind and Pontid are very important in Hungary too.

Anyways, there really is no common look for Hungarians. Hungary is one of the most subracially diverse nations in Europe.

This man is obviously a Langobard, or a recent immigrant from central or northern Europe. I don't think he fits the stereotypical Italian look, who are darker in complexion. Is there alot of Blond Italians in Rome?

Spartacus74
Sunday, November 12th, 2006, 09:09 PM
HO no! He is quite usual in Italy, when he was young he wasn't blond.
Of course he is Indoeuropean and not semitic, but that's normal in an european country.
THis man is absolutely normal in Italy, Germanic or not germanic.
Before Germanics we had celtics, ancient Hellenes and Italic populations: all Indoeuropeans and Aryans , even if darker in Phenotypes.

HOwever he is Baglioni when he was young, not properly blond but not an Arab.

He is Gigi D'Alessio from Naples

Ahhh!, orientalid eyebrows, get away! :PThat's not an Orientalid trait :) It's typical of the short stocky, somewhat curly haired type, probably a major component of Palaeo-Atlantid and pretty common in Ireland.

In my opinion they are likely to have been the earliest people in Western Europe, and the fairy/leprechaun legends are probably based on them :D
