Nicky Taylor was an ordinary drinker. She never had more than two glasses of white wine a night and rarely exceeded the weekly recommended limit of 14 units.

But in a remarkable experiment, the 40-year-old mother-of-three increased her alcohol intake ten-fold. She went out with a group of twentysomething women five nights a week for a whole month to see first-hand what binge drinking can do to the body. Ms Taylor matched the women drink for drink as they downed shots, alcopops and pints in pubs and clubs around the country.

In total she drank 516 units in a month. The results were dizzying. Her body fat increased from 37.4 per cent to 38.9 per cent. She put on more than half a stone in weight, going from a size 12 to size 14.

We really don't need alcohol anymore now that we have water purifying technology...

The greatest danger of alcohol is thus:

Overdosing on deliciousness. :bier:

A 40 year old mother drinking, more or less, a whole month through...when I would do so I would put more on and would even look more wrecked... :notworth:

I'll never understand the urge some people have for binging. Moderation is the key to all good things.

Remarkable? Hmph ... more like reckless and stupid.

Binge drinking is so very dangerous, I can't even believe that a mother with 3 children would jeopardize her health, and risk the possibility of death, just to prove that heavy drinking leads to a bit of weight gain and an old, haggard facial appearence... Sometimes "experiments" such as these are just too ridiculous to comprehend.

Next time they want to do such experiments they souldnīt take mums...maybe there are some other volunteers...:yippee01:

To be serious: the medicative effect of two bottles beers or two glasses of wine (espacially women with coronary heart disease) is a proven fact.

I doubt it was "just to prove".

I agree with Xanthochroid.

I don't drink. I am in my childbearing years anyway, so it would be pretty stupid, jeopordizing my children's health for some bad tasting drink.

I guess its one of those things like coffee - you have to have a taste for it, and I don't. Have fun aging people! :D

Intoxication is not worth the health risks in my opinion. I try to keep my body as free as it can be from pollutants such as alcohol and drugs. Some may speak of the significance beer holds in Germanic cuisine, but I personally don't enjoy it. But, to each his own.
