Feel free to add any confirmed data/links

As a Nord, I am sick of blatent discrimination..

Nordic genes for would-be moms
Scandinavian sperm bank is operating a distribution branch in Ballard

By CAROL SMITH
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

The Vikings are invading Seattle.

Scandinavian Cryobank, one of the largest sperm banks in the world, has opened a distribution branch in Seattle, site of its first U.S. operation, for the bulk import of sperm samples from Norway, Sweden and Denmark.

Peter Bower of Scandinavian Cryobank holds a vial containing imported sperm, which is stored in liquid nitrogen.
"Seattle was an obvious choice because of the Scandinavian background of the population here," said Peter Bower, director of Seattle operations, who is half-Danish himself and chose Seattle because he had lived here previously.

Also, until the cryobank opened its doors last November, Seattle had not had a freestanding, commercial sperm bank.

Swedish Medical Center operates a non-profit local sperm bank as part of its reproductive technology laboratories.

Before the arrival of Scandinavian Cryobank, women who didn't want to use a local bank would usually request sperm from California, which is home to several large commercial banks, said Mary Forster, director of the Swedish lab.

Swedish has had several patients use Scandinavian sperm, both since it has been available locally, and prior to that by having it shipped from Denmark.

Now patients increasingly use the Internet to order sperm, she said.

The sperm bank sells directly to female patients, but only if they are clients of a fertility clinic, or have a doctor's permission.

The bank won't sell to a woman who is not being cared for by a doctor who approves of the procedure, Bower said. The sperm is shipped all over the world.

The market for donor sperm is worth between $50 million and $100 million a year, according to Scandinavian Cryobank.

Although having a sperm bank devoted to one ethnicity is unusual, patients typically choose the physical characteristics of the donor from donor profiles at other banks, Forster said. Donors are screened for genetic disease, mental health issues and some physical traits, such as height. Swedish, for example, does not accept donors under 5 feet 8 inches.

"I don't necessarily agree with that," she said. "But we've found there's just no demand for that."

Height isn't typically an issue for Scandinavian donors, Bower said. "They're the second-tallest people in the world."

The Scandinavian bank eventually plans to import sperm from other countries as well, Bower said.

Ethnic or racial selection is growing among those using donated eggs to get pregnant as well. According to fertility specialists, the wait for an egg from a Jewish, or an Asian donor is about a year.

The sperm bank, which claimed responsibility for 800 babies worldwide last year, screens out 90 percent of applicants who want to be donors. Of those who make the cut, the majority are graduate students at universities in Scandinavia, he said. The screening is based on standards set forth by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.

Like other banks, the Scandinavian one will attempt to match a donor to a photograph supplied by the recipient of what they hope the donor will look like. Some women request a donor who looks like their husband, if he is infertile. Some ask for donors who look like other family members. Or celebrities.

"We had a request last week for a heavy-metal rock star," Bower said. "But I had never heard of him."

The sperm, which is sent in bulk shipments from overseas, is stored in liquid nitrogen, and can be reshipped anywhere in the country. Sperm costs between $200 and $400 per try, depending on how many units are used. It typically takes four or five tries to get pregnant, and a woman's age greatly influences the success rate.

Bower couldn't say how many babies the bank could take credit for locally, although he said the company's sales are in the "hundreds of units monthly."

There is a delay in getting the data, he said. "We don't get the results until nine months later."

This one is rather disturbing as they will sell it & send it out anywhere.
Aryan Men beware!! Make clinics sign a legal waiver that your Nordic seed will only be sold to worthy WHITE couples....

Sperm Popularity Is Color Coded
How can a man father 101 children – even if he’s a virgin – and not know it? Easy, if he’s from Denmark he simply donates semen for money at a sperm bank, reports The New York Times.

While men can make as much as $40 a donation in Denmark and as much as $500 in the United States, many opt out because of fear that their identities may be revealed some day. But Cryos in Arhus, Denmark, has been much more successful in protecting the anonymity of it’s donors and has grown accordingly.

Although most countries limit how many children can be sired by a single donor, sperm banks can send one person’s DNA to multiple countries. That’s how one Dane wound up with 101 descendants, though I was just speculating about his unlikely virginity.

Here’s how it works, according to the Times:

Every day dozens of students here (Arhus, Denmark), and in Copenhagen, walk into Cryos International, the world’s largest sperm bank and, after undergoing a battery of tests to determine their health and fertility, make an anonymous deposit.
That deposit, frozen and eventually shipped, can make its way to as many as 40 countries. Destinations include Spain, Paraguay, Kenya, Hong Kong and New York, where the company opened an office last year to meet the demands of descendants of people from the Nordic countries.:icon_surp

NOOOOOOO!!

But why is Danish sperm so popular in so many nations? Maybe it’s Nordic mystique:

“It was difficult for them to get pure Scandinavian spare parts,” said Ole Schou, the managing director of Cryos International, which operates discreetly in Arhus from an unassuming office across the street from a pet shop. “We could see there was a market.”
“It’s not that people want superchildren,” Mr. Schou said. “It’s that they want someone like them, someone they can relate to.”

Let’s get real Schou; there’s no need to hide behind code words. What you mean is your customers want white babies and Scandinavian sperm offers that implicit guarantee. Don’t worry Schou, you are engaging in a form of subtle racism that most people can’t see.

EDMONTON (CP) - A University of Alberta researcher has hit a chord with parents of attractive children with a study that suggests they're treated better than ugly kids.

Since giving a lecture in March on his study of how parents in Edmonton-area grocery stores treated their children on shopping trips, University of Alberta sociologist Dr. Andrew Harrell has received between 80 and 90 e-mails.

They're mostly from parents confirming his findings - that attractive children are treated better than unattractive ones.

"Most are adding their own experiences confirming what I've found - that there's preferential treatment toward attractive children. In many cases they're talking about their own blond, blue-eyed children."
Harrell recalls one message he received in which a parent talked about how medical staff in a hospital emergency room rushed to treat their attractive young daughter.

"There was quite a lineup. They went straight to their beautiful blue-eyed, blond-haired child - and neglected some that were more seriously injured," he said.
"They were appalled at the time and really didn't have any explanation. They felt my paper, at least in part, explained that bias."

Harrell, the director of the university's population research lab, doesn't think most parents want to admit that they treat ugly kids worse than attractive ones.

"If you ask them, they'll deny it," said Harrell who admits that, as a parent of three children, he's dismayed by his own findings.

In 2003, Harrell's researchers followed 426 sets of parents and young children around Edmonton-area grocery stores to find out what the contributing factors were in grocery cart accidents.

He found that parents tended to keep closer watch over and be more careful with attractive children than with unattractive ones.

Researchers rated kids' appearance on a scale of 1-10, depending mainly on the symmetry of their facial features.

They excluded things like hair and eye-colour and the way children were dressed.

Only about one per cent of unattractive kids were belted into grocery cart safety seats, while 13 per cent of attractive children were buckled up.

Parents of unattractive children were also more likely to wander away from them or completely lose sight of their children.

Men heading up the shopping trips were also more likely to ignore ugly children than women.

"In the case of male adults, they didn't belt in a single unattractive child," said Harrell, who added that women buckled in between two and four per cent of unattractive children.

But men were also most likely to take better care of attractive kids, belting in 15 per cent of the cute ones, compared to 12 per cent for women.

"The men made the greatest discriminations on the basis of attractiveness," he said.

It's all hard-wired into human brains, according to Harrell, who says parents focus on attractive children to ensure their genes are carried into future generations.

"The issue of reproductive potential in children is something that people don't want to admit," Harrell said.

"When you listen in on conversations, parents are often very aware of the attractiveness or unattractiveness of other kids."

Harrell, who hopes to soon publish his findings in a U.S. safety journal, says parents need to be aware that they may have a bias toward their more attractive offspring and compensate for it.

"Be aware of the things that may bias you towards one child or another, including whether one child is adopted or a foster child," he said

They don't explain why we should compensate for this alleged bias.

I found that all quality control problems can be solved by making the contribution in person, bypassing sperm banks. (just kidding)
