does any one have experience
with the Evidence Eliminator™ (http://www.evidence-eliminator.com/product.d2w?g=11262186055901)
(be sure to read the yellow box)?

check out your computer files on display (http://66.250.131.47/alert/security.php).

things like this
and Loki's previous signature (http://danasoft.com/)
make me wonder how any hacking goes unpunished.

Wow! I didn't realise it was that easy to view someone else's files.

Well, in the net every computer can see everyones IP who are connected to it. ISP can be easily queried using IP. Your browser tells the server you're connecting the OS and also identifies itself (I'm using Opera and have configured it to identify itself as Internet Explorer 6, and that's why the sig tells me I'm using IE6).
This is just normal. I, for example, cannot see your IP's because I'm not connected to your computers but the server of this forum. Only mods can see those. :)

Damnit people, use firewalls (and not IE).

Damnit people, use firewalls (and not IE).i recollect my son telling me
there is a firewall on this box.

i did not ask him what one was
or what it diid.

perhaps, i am the only computer-ignorant person here.

if not, we would appreciate
any specific suggestions:
brand-names, configuration advice, et cetera.

Evidence Eliminator is a simple program which "hard deletes" data by writing over the sectors containing deleted data with 0's. This prevents undeletion and simple data recovery.

The "security" website you linked to is doing nothing more than looping your own computer's info back to you. They can't see what you have, I can't see what you have; we all see what our own computer has.

Smoke and mirrors.

we all see what our own computer has.so, it is much like Loki's previous signature (http://danasoft.com/customsig.php)
- with a fancier mode of display?

While people should take precautions to protect themselves on the internet, Evidence Eliminator is just trying to scare you to get you to buy their software. I recommend at least a software firewall like Norton's or Zone Alarm, a virus protection program and a anti-spyware program like Spy Sweeper. If you want to secure files on your computer use an encrypted drivespace such as you can with PGP Desktop.

Yes, I thought that too. But it didn't work in any of my three browsers.

Is it an applet or just a script? If it's an applet running in your computer, couldn't it send the information it views back to the net, then? (That is called hacking and it's of course illegal.)

Another reason not to use IE.
