My favorite pictures of kitties.

I love animals, this is another predominantly Nordish trait. Look at the animal welfare societies, environmentalist and animal rights groups. They are overwhelmingly Nordish.

Not so Friedrich, cats hunt down and destroy undesireables in the home like rodents and insects.

Besides, a cat is the 4-legged version of Vendela of the Swedish Bikini Team

A cat's personality means a lot. Some are very distant and just 'animals' others are very loving and a true part of the family. Cats also make great pets if you are unable to have a dog. I almost purchased a kitten from this breeder last year, but thankfully held off.

I used to have cats that looked exactly like these two. The first one was called Mittens because it looked like she was wearing mittens and the 2nd one I called Caesar. I had my back door open, Caesar came in made himself at home. My back door was always open when I was home and he was free to leave whenever he wanted. But he always came back to sleep at my place.

:viking3: Cats choose their owners and the people they like to hang around with.. I had a grey fuffy part persian female who adopted me & my garden. Also came in the house (literally barge itself through the crappy back screen door I used to have, and sit in the lounge room with me  ) (My cats didn't mind her). Trouble is, this grey cat was owned by this woman a couple of houses down from me.. :annoysigr (very well kept cat too) .. I never encouraged or fed this cat, but it wouldn't leave me alone. Oneday the cat just disappeared. :suomut:

I have another cat that has taken up residence, though this time in the far back cottage of the garden. (and a little timid). I captured a photo of her (I suspect it is a female) oneday on the garden bench. (Taken from afar, the reason for the hazy 'painting' like quality of the picture  ).

I have to agree with you. I love cats, for every reason the second image you posted embodies. I have a black cat named Sable, who is a terrific companion. He rides on my shoulders, sits in my lap at the computer and TV, 'reads' books with me, rides around town in my truck when I go places... just a great pal. And yes, Freyja was definitely on to something when she chose them to draw her chariot.

I must say that I thought I would stop knowing about cats since I moved out from my parents house. But NO!!! A friend of mine has called her homepage for friendlykittens.com. And she is a cat-sort-of person.
Yet there is something I just feel to say when it comes to animals. One should remember that the most usual animal in the viking age was dogs and horses. Now, it seems like cats have taken over for these dogs. Yet there is something I just have to say as well. Last month, I was at a seminar where we should disguss about several subjects. It seemd like it was a sort of hip hop battling, since we should be to persons arguing for their cause. And I picked the subject "dogs and cats", and I should defend the cats. The other one should defend dogs. And the other one should defend the dogs. There I told the group that: "We should kill all the dogs because they are comming from the wolves and are therefor something dangerous." I also mentioned that Fenris (the wolf in norse mythology) was one of those "dogs".

Still I must say that I'd rather prefer dogs than cats. And also I don't see why we should disguss such a thing in here. Why do we do that? What has this to do with nordic politics and disgussion? What has this to do with what we actually are disgussing? Can someone please tell me?

 ha ha...I was nearly right...Funny, my first instinct was Siamese...then I thought your kittens were too robust...so I said Burmese. :viking3:

Hehe aye they are what is known now as the "traditional Siamese" differing from the "modern" species as they are generally more robust and with shorter ears. The modern Siamese is the very thin cat everybody recognised today as a Siamese.

Here is a little passage I found here http://www.siamesekittens.com/hist1.html

Anyone in the market for a Siamese kitten will often have a similar experience. You want a Siamese just like the lovely one you had as a child, or who just passed away at a ripe old age. You go to local breeders, you look in magazines, you attend cats shows, but what you most often find is a cat that looks quite different from the large robust cat you remember. By comparison to the cat you remember, the modern version of the Siamese is emaciated, with large bat-like ears, an elongated head and pencil thin legs. You might ask yourself, "Is this really a Siamese?"

The short answer is 'yes', but this is certainly not the same type as you remember. Chances are what you recall is a large robust cat with a round head, normal looking ears, and lovely blue eyes. What you remember is now called a 'Traditional Siamese, or 'applehead' Siamese, while the one that dominates the show ring now is known as the Modern Siamese.

If you wonder out loud about what happened, different breeders may give you very different explanations, but the truth is clearly available in any history book.

1986 to Present:

By 1986 there were no traditional or 'applehead' Siamese being shown and the modern Siamese was so entrenched that many modern breeders were actually unaware of the breed's history and held the opinion that the Siamese had always looked like the modern version, and that traditional Siamese were cats of inherently inferior quality.

Because the Traditional Siamese breeders could not win in the show ring, many had stopped breeding, switched to a different breed, or had stopped registering or keeping records on the Siamese they had been breeding. It was this situation that prompted the formation of cat organizations that recognized the traditional Siamese and sponsored shows where traditional breeds could compete for prizes just as in the shows that recognized only the modern version of the same breeds.

Today, a growing number of organizations recognize the traditional Siamese, and other traditional breeds, as a new appreciation develops for the health and longevity of the original bloodlines.

so basically I prefer the old Siamese race which is slowly dieing out just like I prefer my own Nordic race which is also dieing out :viking1: , although I don’t actually have any racial preferences on cats generally, just when it comes to the thin ugly modern one, and what I think is a much lovelier Siamese, the traditional breed :animal-sm

This is our family's oldest cat Tinkerbell. She's 17 and living with me at the moment. On the right, our new 8 week old kitten, Monty. They look very similar!

These two really do not again on together! Put them in the same room, and Tinker's tail puffs up, and she constantly makes a loud, deep pitched "Wrroooooorrw" sound! Anyone have any ideas how you can help two cats get along, especially when one is a kitten, and the other is a fairly old cat that hasn't been around other cats for many years? :frown:

What has this to do with what we actually are disgussing? Can someone please tell me?I think a thread like this one is useful. It is fun, light-hearted and highlights the fact that love of animals is a predominantly Nordish trait.

For example Asians generally perceive animals as an exploitable resource. Look at the way they treat even endangered species, using their bodyparts for aphrodisiacs, home remedies, or whatever they use them for. To them, a cat or a dog is just another menu selection.

Here is an example:

;) Ok...I have four cats now. My 2 new kittens were brought into the household just over 2 months ago.

I have a 7 year old desexed male and a desexed female of 3 years of age.
Now they both hissed & acted offended & shocked at the presence of the 2 kittens (both female/sisters). This affront lasted up to a week....Now they are all getting along.

My tips:...

*Feed both cats together.

*Never show anger towards Tinkerbell when she hisses and even swats at Monty. (of course...break it up...if it gets really nasty..A full grown cat is no match for a kit.)

*Be sure to spend time with Tinkerbell. She is jealous of the newcomer & uncertain of her position...('what the hel is going on!!?)

* A tip I have read (though never tried) is wiping a towel on the kittens face..then wiping the same towel on the mature cat. Over the face gently to introduce the new smell of the newbie (kitten) to the main cat.

*Play games with Monty (while Tinkerbell) is in the room or nearby & in full view. Balls, strings etc and incorporate the play with both kitten & big cat. (I have often witnessed rather delightful 'playful' behaviour from the mature cats. They can't resist string escaping under a rug!

* Use 2 litter trays. One for Monty & Tinkers usual one.

* Don't stress when the cats/kittens are near each other & a confrontation is likely. Relax & give off happy & confident vibes. Believe it or not...the cats pick this up and act accordingly. ;)

* Female cats can be actually more defensive & possesive about their territory and extremely cranky & threatened by newcomers... Give her time & extra treats, love & attention.

Anyway...hope this may help. :viking1:

For example Asians generally perceive animals as an exploitable resource. Look at the way they treat even endangered species, using their bodyparts for aphrodisiacs, home remedies, or whatever they use them for. To them, a cat or a dog is just another menu selection.

Here is an example:

Bear Bile farms in China (http://www.snakeshow.net/nature_bear_bile_farms.html)

That's just really f****d up

*Never show anger towards Tinkerbell when she hisses and even swats at Monty. (of course...break it up...if it gets really nasty..A full grown cat is no match for a kit.)

Noo! don't do that! they'll tair you to shreds! I tried to break up some cats fighting once and they sodding cut me so bad I bled like a stuck pig :speechles

Right now Tinker lives with me, and Monty at my parents place (to keep them apart). Yes, Tinker has watched Monty playing (through a glass window) and doesn't cause much fuss. Despite all my efforts though, Tinker is no longer really interested in playing (in her prime chasing a toy mouse that I attached to fishing line and pulled under a rug was one of her favourites!) I take her for walks, about 1/2 hour every day, so she still gets some exercise.

I do not have a cat, but here is a foto of me petting a cat which seem to roam throughout the neighbourhood at late hours. The second foto is when he plays hide-and-find beneath the bed el. leiker gjřmsel under senga. Sometimes he stinks though, and then we must throw him out from my friends window. :valkyrie:

...he lives at groundfloor though, so do not worry about kittie going splatt like panncake.

About a month ago, the most precious and treasured cat that I have ever had in my whole life disappeared... :frown: I'm assuming that he has befallen the same fate as all of the other cats I have lost since moving up here, (falling prey to predatory birds). And though it is always hard to lose a pet, losing my dearest Peter (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/mystryd/Peter.jpg) has been really tough on me. He was a very smart, loving cat who would follow me everywhere I went (like a dog) and always slept under the bed-covers with me... he always wanted to be with me, and I with him. I miss him a lot, and I only just recently accepted the fact that he is not coming back... (now enough of this depressing talk... the happy part is coming next! ;))

Knowing how sad I have been lately, a good friend of mine who is visiting surprised me with a most wonderful gift this afternoon... A new, and beautiful kitten! He had gone to the grocer's for a few things and when he returned, he asked me if I would go get the milk from the car... When I went out there - to my complete and joyous suprise - what did I find? The fluffiest, most darling little silver-grey kitten imaginable, sitting in a folded paper sack (they were giving them away free in front of the store, and Kessi couldn't resist)! :D

My friend chose to name him Pogí, and he is 7 weeks old. I took some pictures of him to share with you all (too many, but I couldn't help it!)... he is just so cute and sweet! :P

Here is Pogí, sittin' in the grass:

And here he is cuddling with my dog, Bande:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/mystryd/Pogi_and_Bande.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/mystryd/Pogi4.jpg

I also learned that Pogí is going to be just as impossible as all my other cats, and climb up my amps and scratch on them (it's the first thing he did when I brought him in the house!) Bad little cat! :icon12:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/mystryd/Pogi8.jpg

Getting some tummy scratching...

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/mystryd/Pogi7.jpg

So, that's my new baby. :)

While I'm showing cat pictures, I'll show a couple of one of my other wonderful cats - Pegis. He's about 7 months old, and he's a really good little boy... but he doesn't like his new brother at all (I think he's jealous!).

Pegis, just hanging out:

:) My cats thankfully leave my Marshall alone....though my Vladimir (x Norsk Forest Cat) knocked down the heads many years ago with his 8.7kg weight...:D :O Perhaps I should consider myself lucky that my cats are so small, and all they do is scratch the cabinets... Sheesh, I cannot imagine how mad I would be if one of them ever pulled a stunt like your Vladimir. ;)

Here's my Heineken sitting next to the Marshall.;)

Awww... :) My kitten is doing the very same thing. He likes to climb up and sit on top of them... or when I have both full-stacks set up, he'll jump back and forth between the two (over and over)... Here is right now:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/mystryd/e75dd673.jpg

When he's not lounging on my amps, he likes to sleep in my guitar cases. I have a beat up old bass case that I've started letting him use as a bed, and it's really cute. My other cats come and lay in it, too... I think they're jealous. :D

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/mystryd/e34d4cff.jpg

He likes to hang out in the studio with me, and he's always so cuirious about what I'm doing and wants to be involved. If he keeps chewing up cords and climbing amps, though, I think I shall have to cat-proof this room.
