I think they are from Finland or something.

I liked their last album a lot, "Secret of the Runes" of the runes, their style is completely different from their first albums but it has turned out to be a whole new way of expression. I liked it.

And by the way, for those of you that did not know, Therion {ΘΗΡΙΟΝ} means 'Beast' in Greek...

They are Swedish.
"Theli" is still my favourite...

Therion had potential to be a great band, back when they were on Grindcore Records. However, theyr style totally changed from death/grind to melodic, and downright cheesy opera styled. The operatic Therion gets on my nerves and I can't bare to listen to it. Reminds me of how bad Tiamat got.

Therion is great! Christoffer Johnsson is supposed to be a very good guy. A kind of occult nationalsocialist according to friends of him. His first band was called Blitzkrieg...

Therion's first drummer (1989-1992) later played in one of the best Swedish "white power" bands (Vit Aggression). The first Therion demo tape has a picture of him with braces and everything. :-D

I liked old Therion, on Grindcore records. The later years I never cared for at all.

Of course not, I enjoy many old Nuclear Blast artists.

I liked 'Secret of the Runes' and I enjoyed 'Hymn to Naamah' but I normally don't like Power Metal, instead I like good Black Metal like Burzum's 'Filosofem' album.

Most definatly! Even though the newest stuff is not just northern:-) It is so well done and with a true pagan spirit so I don't mind. I love viking metal! Almost anything that combines orchestral/oprea and hard music does something to me(if done well). But I am not too fond of the numerous bands that use our northern gods and symbols just to be cool metal heads and seem to be short on respect much less belief. :valkyrie

Känd svensk hårdrockare medlem i nazistparti

I have to correct you on a few things my friend:

1. "A kind of occult nationalsocialist according to friends of him."

If that was true, I don't think any friend of him would tell people that, so you could have found out about it. And if he was, you certainly wouldn't do him any favours writing about it in a forum that search engines can reach. :( :thumbdown

Actually knowing the guy a bit some years ago (he used to write on a historical forum I also used to write on and we later mailed a bit), my impression is rather that he have a very good knowledge about WW2, Third Reich etc, as it is a great interest of his (something he never made a secret of apparently), but don't agree of the politics - at least not enough to be called a national socialist (I didn't get to know him well enough to say for sure, but my strong impression was that hefor sure have no interest what so ever in the modern NS movements - not even as study objects).
I also remember he had a perticulary big interest in stuff like Wewelsburg, Willigut, Thule Society, Vril Society, Ahnenerbe and stuff like that (and a big knowledge about it too), rather than panzer and politics of the Third Reich. My impression was that he looked upon those things from an occult viewpoint, rather than being political and gaze into the occult, as is the case with the NS-people interested in these matters.
For sure he is not a racist, he told me he had very good friends in south america from touring there (NO, not 90 year old germans living there since -45, ha ha). ;)

2. His first band was called Blitzkrieg...

Blitzkrieg was the same band as Therion, it was just an earlier name (that's even written on theri web page).
Obvioulsy they didn't like the name as they wanted to change it. Also the guy was 15 years old back then, so I wouldn't put too much value in that. Tiamat (another good band) used to be called Treblinka originally, but Johan (main guy in the band) is far from being right wing. Anyway, I read in an interview that the name was taken from a Metallica song (B-side of the Creeping Death maxi-EP actually).

3. Therion's first drummer (1989-1992) later played in one of the best Swedish "white power" bands (Vit Aggression).

This is true, but according to Chris own statement (on a swedish web page: http://www.socialism.nu/index.php?page=forum&section=thread&id=9836&view=5 ), this was several years after he left Therion. Chris here also say that drummer used to be a skinhead, but Therion never allowed him to be shaved on the band photos as they didn't share his opinions. The drummer just did a temporary job for Vit Aggression and Chris writes that he think he just helped out some old friends. It is very possible that this drummer is/was NS, but that doesn't mean Chris is it.

4. "The first Therion demo tape has a picture of him with braces and everything."

Totally wrong! None of the demos have any pictures at all - I owe both of them! Originals! ;)

Therion's music is very good, you people got that right! I've followed the bands career since the early days. I'm not too fond of death metal anymore, so it's great that they have become a wagnerian metal band instead! :D
