In general, Belarussians are darker, shorter and more brachycephalic than Russians, all of which is a result of Alpine influence from the Ukraine. Southern (Polessye) Belarussians cluster with Ukrainians, while Northern and Central Belarussians resemble Illmen and Valdai Russian respectively. Approximately 25% of Belarussians belong to this type.

Type #1. Polessye type: short, brachycephalic, relatively dark, platyprosopic (broad-faced):

now you are talking prodigal. this is great, thank you. the lady defined as valdai is totally different from the guy nearby. She is Wend's kurganid. why are the zygomatas so high? the lateral orbital and the lateral zygomatic distance is too much. i would like to see some living examples of this type if you would not mind. these pictures are a great job thank you. karpathid is related with these types i guess.

I had seen tables suggesting that Belarus was slightly more depigmented/blonde than Russia because it has more in common with Lithuanians genetically...?

Unfortunately I can't see the pics at the moment, can you see them? But when I saw them first time, that was what I thought as well. A girl was darker, her eyesockets and nose were quite different, that is all I remember.

Prodigal Son has exceeded his allocated data transfer. http://www.forums.skadi.net/images/icons/icon9.gif I think I've seen all these Russian, Ukrainian and Belarussian anthropological pics anyway, someone was kind enough to share them with me a while back. http://www.forums.skadi.net/images/icons/icon12.gif I wonder when Geocities is going to wise up about us sneaky devils changing the file extentions to .txt all the time? http://www.forums.skadi.net/images/icons/icon10.gif

I remember reading in some national geographic book about the Soviet Union that Belarussians were fairer, this being written in the 1970s. I can look around for the book and supply a quote if you want.

Does the Ukrainian city L'viv have a general type?
Not really rather mixed types. It used to be multiethnic… Poles, Germans, Ukrainians, Jews, Armenians. Before 1945 it was evidently more Nordic than surrounding Ukrainian region. After expulsion of Poles, Germans, and elimination of Jews Lwow was populated by Russians, Eastern Ukrainians, but generally by Gorid, Dinaric or Noric Western Ukrainians.

Northern Belarus, perhaps. However, Polessye Belarussians are considerably darker, so they drive the average of depigmentation down.
