As much as I like cats, it's the only pet i have now in fact, I put other because I thought having a Hermit Crab as a pet was rather cool.

In case the pig option seems a bit weird, i got the idea from a friend of mine who used to study in Britain. He was studying agriculture and animal farming and reproduction, he was involved with pigs, cows, corn fields, etc.
So he tells me he used to bring little piggies in his house and have them as pets, taught them many things, to bring the newspapers and other complicated tasks and he was actually surprised how brilliant pigs are. So he had the piggy for a pet inside his house with his roomates, giving it a lot of food and once it gained weight and when in the right time he slaughtered it with his roomates and they were eating these pigs.

The lack of votes for dogs makes me think maybe Germans really ARE outnumbered on this board... ;-)

Dogs for me. I own a beloved classic fawn Boxer (docked and cropped) and they are the best dog in the world. Bred by the Germans to be the perfect dog. Doberman Pinschers and Giant Schnauzers come in 2nd and 3rd, with the Great Dane closing in on their heels very fast.

I voted for cats,

i really like dogs, their loyalty to their master and their honesty is a unique phenomenon,

but it is the mystery in the cats' eyes that has stolen my heart..

Dogs are my favorite, cats second. Dogs are far more useful than cats. I prefer a good-sized dog, about 75lbs, as a watchdog. I enjoy always knowing when something is amiss on the homestead. The right breed of dog is ever watchful. To me, dogs are useful while cats are luxury (and a chore).

We put down my rottweiler almost 2 years ago. Decided not to get another till I purchase a house. Here's my two cats fighting.

always DOGS. Always. I've only ever been without a dog for a month. I only like proper dogs ;-) Working or hunting dogs generally, no toys or small breeds. Breed wise I prefer Mastiffs, German Shepherds, Irish Wolfhounds, Labradors, Rottweilers, Dobermanns, Pointers, Boxers...etc :D
I have a labrador/Mastiff/Spaniel (!!!) mongrel and he's easily better than any pedigree dog I've owned.....supreme guard dog and the ultimate in canine loyalty and nobility...plus he's cute :-D

I also have 2 cats...

Funny thing I heard on the radio this morning...

Some of the factors that determines whether or not a man is gay include:

1. He owns a cat.
2. He is able to distinguish between different BREEDS of cats.

Right now we have 4 cats but my husband has had rattlesnakes and black scorpions before. Once you have children it is hard to keep pets like these so he set the snakes free and gave away the scorpions.

He set the rattlesnakes free?! I'm glad I don't live in your neighborhood, hehe. And if I was even within 50 feet of a scorpion I'd be freaking out. http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons/15.gif

Where we live rattlesnakes are found in the mountains around us and as for scorpions they are alot mellower than most people think my husband use to take them out and let them walk around on him never had a problem with them trying to sting him. I always found the snakes to be friendlier than most people and they try to avoid being seen because most people try and kill them even though they are a protected species here.

Nothing beats the loyalty and inner strength of a dog. However, birds are also a soothing pet, unless your stupid enough to keep a crow for a pet..

Persian cats (http://www.gorbeh.com/). I love cats, but these critters are soooooo ugly! They look like they've been punched in the face. And those bugged-out walleyes...

The cat speaks:
You ask, what is our policy? I will say: It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us: to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, What is our aim? I can answer in one word: Victory - victory - at all costs, victory, in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival. Let that be realised; no survival for the British Empire; no survival for all that the British Empire has stood for, no survival for the urge and impulse of the ages, that mankind will move forward towards its goal. But I take up my task with buoyancy and hope. I feel sure that our cause will not be suffered to fail among men. At this time I feel entitled to claim the aid of all, and I say, 'Come, then, let us go forward together with our united strength.'

I like cats I suppose...i have 2 nice ones..there are a few nice types of cats - the sphinx (I kinda feel sorry for the poor ugly thing!) and the Russian blue like my cat..those cats with the short legs are very funny too :D

Anyone who would pick a cat over a dog though has got to have issues ;)
Dogs are perfect - loyal, intelligent, fun, protective, cute! They rule :D
Interestingly, my favourite dog and the best I've ever owned is a mongrel - 8 year old mix of labrador, spaniel and mastiff....he looks like a lab with mastiff colouring and mastiff strength! He's an amazing guard dog and the epitomy of loyalty!
We also have 2 retrievers, one 6 months old, a labrador and her puppy who is a little over a year now and for all their pedigrees they're nothing compared to the mongrel :D
Still, he's totally mine so I'm a little more biased than I am with the others ;)

Do humans model cats after themselves or something? Do Russian cats have short legs so they can dance Kazachok better? Persian cats perhaps represent the Khan dynasty haha...I wonder if the Italian cats bust up other cats knees and takes their collars.

When i was young we used to have this female wolfdog and we called it Lana. We took it to the village house to live with my grandma when she was a little baby and Lana was very smart and friendly. She was getting big really fast and she stayed with the chicken in the back of my grandmas house. Some time, my grandma thought she had lost some chickens from her backyard, but she realised what was happening in reality, when one day she went to see the chickens and she shaw Lana holding a live chicken with her front feet and having eaten it up to half the body! Then she realised it was Lana that had grown up and started eating the chickens.

When one day my grandma went out in her yard, Lana who was always happy to see my grandma stood on her back feet and tried to hug my grandma, you know what dogs do when they are too happy to see you. But now Lana had grown bigger than my grandma! And unfortunately she threw my grandma to the ground....

That was really bad, cause my father decided to kick Lana out of the house, and he gave her to a man living in the mountains with many animals, to guard his sheep. Well, we were happy about Lana, maybe a big wolfdog would live a better life as a protector of sheeps in the mountain. The next time i asked my father about it, he told me that Lana was caught by the new owner eating his chicken! And that he gave her away to yet another owner... That is the last i heard of this dog, but i suspect my father lied to us because we were young children, and that the truth is the new owner actually shot Lana for eating his chickens..... :~(

I chose dogs. I'd love to have my very own cocker spaniel. Preferably a black one, since I wear mostly black clothes.

I like cats as well, and they like me, but I can't have one since I'm allergic ... :~(

Does anyone know if both dogs and cats were first bred by Caucasians? My guess is that cats are from the Orient or Far East...they have the eyes for it lol

So far as I know cats are from Egypt and where dogs are from is unclear. Some say they were bred in different regions...

I like dogs (good looking ones like Doberman and all wolf-like ones) and cats too.
