Well, i found some intressting articles about the Nimerigar :

The Nimerigar are legendary race of little people (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_people) found in the folklore of the Shoshone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoshone) people of North America’s (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=North_America%E2%80%99s&action=edit) Rocky Mountains (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocky_Mountains). According to Shoshone tales, the Nimerigar were an aggressive people who would shoot poisoned arrows shot from tiny bows. Nimerigar were said to have lived in the Wind River (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_River) and Pedro ranges of Wyoming (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyoming).
Although thought to be mythical, the reality of Nimerigar tales was called into question in 1932 with the discovery of the Pedro Mountains Mummy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedro_Mountains_Mummy), a 14 inch adult mummy found in a cave 60 miles south of Casper, Wyoming.

Its just a legancy but then i found the story about the Pedro Mountains Mummy!

The Pedro Mountain Mummy (also called the Dwarf Mummy of Wyoming) is a small (approximately 40 centimeters) mummified corpse, that was found in 1932 by two prospectors named Cecil Main and Frank Carr in a cave in the Pedro Mountains in Wyoming.
[edit (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Pedro_Mountains_Mummy&action=edit&section=1)]

Overview

The mummy was put on public display at Jones’ Drug in Meeteetse, Wyoming (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meeteetse%2C_Wyoming), before being sold to Ivan Goodman, a Casper, Wyoming (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casper%2C_Wyoming), businessman, in the mid-1940’s. Thinking it would be a good way to attract business and publicity, Goodman displayed the mummy at his used car lot for several years. The mummy was also displayed publicly at the Rialto Cigar Shop in downtown Casper for a time during the late 1940s.
In 1950, Goodman had the mummy examined by Dr. Harry Shapiro, an anthropologist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthropologist) from the American Museum of Natural History (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Museum_of_Natural_History). X-rays (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-rays) showed that it was indeed human but this is where anthropologists and other scientific experts part company. The anthropologists were unanimous in agreement that the mummy was an infant but another group of radiologists and doctors believed the remains were of a 16-65 year old male.
Goodman died in 1950 and the mummy was passed on to Leonard Wadler, a New York businessman, a July 7, 1979, article in the Casper Star-Tribune (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Casper_Star-Tribune&action=edit) states. The mummy has not been seen in public since Wadler, who died in the 1980s, took possession of it. The mummy’s whereabouts are currently unknown. After the mummy vanished, it's X-rays were examined by George Gill, an anthropology professor at the University of Wyoming (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Wyoming) in the 70's. , Gill concluded, as did every anthropologist, that the mummy was the remains of an anencephalic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anencephalic) infant, according to a February 3, 2003, Casper Star-Tribune story.
Although the exact nature of the mummy may never be determined, some speculate it to be the remains of a Nimerigar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nimerigar), a race of little people (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_people) spoken of in the legends of the Shoshone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoshone). This mystery will remain until the mummy surfaces and faces a battery of modern day tests.
John Adolfi of Bibleland Studios and the Lost World Museum in Phoenix, New York, is offering a US$10,000 reward for information leading to the rediscovery of the mummy.
Do u believe this story?
Well , I do! I cant believe that this mummy is from a normal human.

The one on the picture does not even look Human.

What this most likely is.

* A Person or Persons with some type of genetic disorder(s).

* A Person(s) descended from the pre-historic pacific Negrito(Australoid) migrations waves.

* An Amerind group who were effected by some disease or an unusual Climate/environment.

* Or just simply a hoax

Although dwarfing probably occurred in some tribes of early Americans - they spanned more than 75% of the earth's latitude, and were exposed to a wide range of environments - I am fairly skeptical of this "Pedro Mountains Mummy". A 14-inch adult human? By the looks of it, this is a deliberate hoax, or at best some freakish pathological expression.

Did I hear a distorted version of this same story about the mummy? The one I heard was that the mummy was 'white' and was sold to a masonic group for initiationary purposes, and thus lost to science... Was that something else?

Well the "legend" could be true, but imo 14 inch is an bit short.
Then again there are other dwarflike humans races like Pygmies, and the recently discovered remains of now extinct homo floresiensis.
Those were also an local legend until the skeletons were found.

Scientists have found skeletons of a hobbit-like species of human that grew no larger than a three-year-old modern child (See pictures). The tiny humans, who had skulls about the size of grapefruits, lived with pygmy elephants and Komodo dragons on a remote island in Indonesia 18,000 years ago.

The quoted text explains anthropologists discerned the Wyoming mummy to be an anencephalic infant. This was back in the 70s.

This thread shall be closed for the simple reason it has little to no relevance at all to Germanics. Long before European arrival, and mythologial beings within Shoshone mythology.

And as we all know, the closest the Shoshones have ever gotten to any form of Germanic heritage, remains a 1999 film by German comedian Michael "Bully" Herbig. :P

It's also a matter not really of interest to the Phys. Anthropology section much either, it's too shallow for that.
