Indo-Mediterranean race

The Indo- Mediterranean (or Mediterranean) race - is a division of the major Europeoid race, extending along the coast of the Mediterranean (in Europe and North Africa to including the Sahara), Black sea and further to the east through front Asia to North India. Characteristic features: gracile build, dark-comlexioned skin, dark pigmentation of hair and eyes, usually a comparatively small stature, dolicho- or mezocephaly, narrow face, elongated, ortognathous, wavy hair, wide orbits, almond-shaped eyes, long, straight, or convex nose, thin lips, but thicker than in northern Europeoids.

Types:

The Insular-Iberian type of the Indo-Mediterranean race - is extended on the islands of the western part of the Mediterranean. It is characterized by low stature and comparatively wide face in comparison with the population of the continent.

The Inland-Coastal type of the Indo-Mediterranean race or Iberian race - is extended in the coastal areas of South Europe. It is characterized by general gracility, narrow face, low stature, dolichocephaly.

The Berber type of the Indo-Mediterranean race - is extended among the populations of North Africa, in the Sahara. It differs from the Arab type due to a very high and narrow face, angular features, straight nose, in terms of wider head less high. Some groups are characterized by very tall stature and comparatively light pigmentation of the eyes. Many groups of this type are strongly mixed with Negroid varieties.

The Adriatic type of the Indo-Mediterranean race - is extended on the coast of the Adriatic sea, in the eastern part of the Mediterranean. It differs from the adjacent versions of the same race in terms of a comparatively tall stature, somewhat lighter pigmentation, and has a number of gradations into the Balkan-Caucasian race.

The Pontic type of the Indo-Mediterranean race, or Pontic race, Black Sea or Eastern Mediterranean type - is extended among the peoples of the coast of the Black sea, for example, of Adygei and South Russians. Somewhat in terms of larger sizes, and also in terms of increased percentage of the omitted (?) tip of the nose and light eyes it is different from the more southern Caspian type.

Black Sea type - one of the synonyms of the Pontic type of the Indo-Mediterranean race.

The Northern Pontic type of the Europeoid race - according to Bunak, the northern variety of the Pontic type, differing from the southern one by lighter pigmentation.

The Arabian type of the Indo-Mediterranean race or Semito-Arabian race - southwestern anthropological variety, which passes into the Balkan-Caucasian race. It is characterized by a comparatively low stature, large dimensions of the nose, in comparison with other types of the same race by a wide face. Some groups of the Near East, on the contrary, are very tall and narrow-faced.

The Indo-Afghan type of the Indo-Mediterranean race, or Indo-iranian race - eastern variety, which differs from the majority of eastern varieties in terms of tall stature and great increase in the beard and whisker growth. G.F. Debets divided the Indo-Afghan race into the North Indian, Hindu Kush and Pamir-Ferghana types.

The Caspian type of the Indo-Mediterranean race (otherwise, Caspian, or Transcaspian race) - is extended among the peoples of Transcaucasia, for example, Azerbaijanis, possibly also among Pamirians. it differs from the more northern Pontic type in terms of gracility, straighter nose and rarity of light eyes.

Transcaspian race - synonym of the Caspian type of the Indo-Mediterranean race.

Can you post examples of each type as well? Some of us are more visually oriented and like to see what is being described. :)

In this thread you can find some types such as the Indic variety, the Iberian variety (Nuno Gomes) , The Inland Coastal type (Cannavaro) , The Czech might be a Pontic type, not necissarily.

You can regard a person like Zidane as a Berber type.etc.

Aishwarya Rai is definately an Indic Med type though more exotic skullwise.

I still wonder in which category we can place the Levantine people..

The Levant —also known as Greater Syria—is an approximate historical geographical term (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographical_terms) referring to a large area in Southwest Asia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southwest_Asia) south of the Taurus Mountains (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taurus_Mountains), bounded by the Mediterranean Sea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mediterranean_Sea) in the west, and the north Arabian Desert (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabian_Desert) and Mesopotamia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesopotamia) to the east. The Levant does not include Anatolia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatolia) (although at times Cilicia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cilicia) may be included), the Caucasus Mountains (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucasus_Mountains), or any part of the Arabian Peninsula (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabian_Peninsula) proper. The Sinai (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinai) Peninsula is sometimes included, though more considered an intermediate, peripheral, or marginal area forming a land bridge between the Levant and northern Egypt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egypt). For what the area is called by natives and others, see names of the Levant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_of_the_Levant).
