I would like a pretzel smilie. As a German, of course, but a pretzel smilie is also useful when George W. Bush topics are discussed. *cough* *cough* :tombstone ;)

Hmm... still no Hitler smilie. But a whole bunch of Negroes. :mistert :african :negress

Is it too much to get a smiley of a nordish redhead fawning over another smiley that has an uncanny resemblence to me?

I'm very happy about this: :bman and the three new Satans. Oh happy day!
There were display issues connected to the "Batman" and "Batgirl" smilies, as ";bat", the code for the existing "Bat" smiley, is a substring of both ";batman" and ";batgirl". Consequently, I changed the respective codes to "bman" and "bgirl", and they should work now.

:bat :bman :bgirl

If you notice any other display problems, please let me know. It always happens if the code for an existing smiley is a substring of another one, and it's difficult to keep an overview over all the existing codes when adding new smilies.

Hmm, I'm confused by this smiley: :russian Was this Russian raised in West Hollywood by two leather-clad daddies by any chance?

Ah ... I hadn't read the continuation of this thread. Would have saved me some effort. I just did a Google search and added the best GroeFaZ smiley I could find. There was not too much choice. :hitler

I also found Osama: :osama

Anyway, thanks for all the creative inputs. We do not plan on maintaining a Hitler or stormtrooper collection on this board, but keep in mind that one can display whatever smilies one likes, simply by using the (img)(/img) [in square brackets] tags.

:D Not really... but Ladygoeth mentiones "leather-clad" West Hollywood boys, and there is indeed a certain connection with Hitlerian preferences.

... by creating a couple of GIFs and putting them into sequence. Try Animation Shop which comes with Paint Shop Pro:

Why can't we just get rid of all this puerile smiley nonsense and animated GIFs? This board already looks like a mixture of a pinball and a slot machine. That crap takes forever to load and is basically annoying and useless.

To add my serious thoughts ... there is nothing wrong with accentuating a thought or statement with small imagery or animations. They are funny and sometimes very artistic, and the right icon at the right time made me smile, laugh, or even cheer up more than once. They also aid the comprehension, create a friendlier climate, and help to avoid misunderstandings on a medium that is deprived of gestures and voice intonations.

Nobody is forced to use them, but from messages I can see that almost everyone does and most seem to enjoy them. Their share on transfer time is negligible, and I can bear witness to that, as I am using a slow modem connection; the redundant part of a single, average, relatively unoptimized JPEG image, as they typically are found on the Internet and displayed on this forum, takes as much loading time and bandwidth as some dozens of smilies - and the browser cache takes care that the latter don't have to be loaded twice.

Needless to say that we are trying to stay at the edge of the visual development. Loki volunteered to reorganize our avatars within the next days, and once the templates for the v.3.0 are fixed, we'll update the stylesets and offer some additional, (even) more attractive layouts.

Kind regards,

- Thorburn
