One of the things I love most about the German language is its use of compound nouns, as this evokes some wonderful imagery, in my opinion.

My 5 favourites:

Federvieh = feathered cattle = poultry
Baumwolle = tree wool = cotton
Nacktschnecke = naked snail = slug
Nachtfalter = night butterfly = moth
Brustwarze = breast/chest wart = nipple

Does anyone else have favourites? :)

Brustwarze

In fact "Brustwarze" sounds really ugly. "Warze" evokes a feeling of illness, of something ugly (imagine a brown and hairy wart.. :puke)

I prefer words like "Schafwolken" and Gaumenfreuden". ;)
