Does anybody know where the dumb blonde stereotype comes from? I mean if blondes are dumb, Negroes must be highly gifted intellectually, or not? :stop

Hard to say.
I could only guess that it has more to do with women who are pretty lacking in the brains dept, ie "Bimbos".
The blonde part is probably due to the fact that blonde has traditionally been seen as more glamorous (Blondes have more fun type thing or "Gentlemen prefer blondes") and those type of women have been inclined to dye or bleach their hair blonde if they weren't naturally so.
So those "bimbos" whether naturally blonde or bottle blonde have given blonde women in general a bad name.

I find the "dumb blonde" stereotype blatantly racist and a major sign of just how hypocritical society is, jokes about "so, a nigger and a jew walk into a bar..." or "how many jews does it take to screw in a lightbulb" are frowned upon and classed as racist, yet dumb blonde jokes are universally tolerated. :grrr

This pisses me off greatly.

I would not complain that it was racist, but I would complain of the double standards, I am blonde and most of the people I know are non-blonde, they are totally dumber than I ever was for sure, at least that is what I think. Though I will be the first to state that stereotype generally have some correlation with reality.

The hypocrisy is one of the things that incenses me so much about it. I agree about stereotype having foundations in reality, in this instance likely because of a large number of female morons, combined with the "beautiful people" image, means that airheads end up bleaching their hair blonde to be one of those "beautiful people".

In addition to what everyone else has said, I would give another possible contributing cause.

First, I think the 'dumb blonde' stereotype is primarily aimed at female blondes. I think it is caused by the same thing that can cause lower 'intellectual-engagement' in good-looking females generally. (I say 'intellectual engagement' because I think the 'dumbness' lies more in lesser depth/breadth of knowledge gained by reading, than lower IQ per se.) That is, when too much positive attention is lavished on a person from their youngest days for no other reason than that which they have no control over (eg, hair colour), that individual is unlikely to feel the need to improve their mind as much or get good school grades etc. Blonde is definitely considered the most attracive hair colour (for women) in western society. The unnaturally high attention these types of females receive can negate the need to strive for distinction in other ways, IMO.

Therefore, I really don't think it's healthy to overly praise white people just because they have inherited a few aesthetically-pleasing characteristics. (Being white, healthy and (generally) marrying close to one's own subtype are the important things.) It is absolutely WRONG to allow children to get away with misbehaviour because of a priceless smile or precious golden mop. It is quite wrong, also, to allow blonde women (in the workforce) to neglect logical rigour in thought and argument just because of the cute way they might brush that golden lock from their face - after saying something utterly mindless.

These sorts of potentially intellectual-engagement reducing (please forgive me my blonde friends!) effects of blondism are not likely, of course, where blondes are the norm or common place. It's interesting how some apparently inherent characterisics alter in an ethnically pure(r) society. (I saw something about the Jews, a while ago, relating to how their traditional desire for their kids to become doctors, lawyers etc was not evident in Israel. They apparently no longer needed to strive for societal acceptance, as they did/do in the diaspora.)

You got some good points hardcorps. Some of the "dumb blonde" scenario may also be tied to the many among the Jewish community that have a hatred for all things Germanic and their dominanace of the communications industry...ie Hollywood..radio...advertising..etc. Would not be surprising if prior to the 1930's that the stereotype did not exist.

cheers :glasses
