NW Africans are mainly indigenous with about 8% recent paternal Sub-Saharan African admixture. To complete the picture, lets look at the picture from mtDNA. Again, it is clear that maternal ancestry is not shared between Negroids and North Africans to a major extent. The Moroccan Berbers are 96% Caucasoid and 4% Negroid. The Senegalese are 96% Negroid and 4% Caucasoid maternally.

Mitochondrial DNA analysis of Northwest African populations reveals genetic exchanges with European, Near-Eastern, and sub-Saharan populations

J. C. RANDO

Annals of Human Genetics
Volume 62 - Issue 06 - November 1998

From Table 4, page 545

Caucasoid Sequences, labeled L3E and U6

Portugal 97%
Moroccan Berbers 96%
Algerian Berbers 82%
Moroccans (non-Berber) 78%
West Saharans 56%
Mauritanians 57%

...

Senegalese 4%

Not too different from the Portugese actually. :)

Coon must have been high on something when he made these observations!

A rather useful bit of information.

This would constitute a banning at SF.:)

Right. :)

I wonder what their stance is on North Africans.

From Coon's "exotic Nordics" plate:

FIG.. 5 (2 views). A Riffian from the coastal village of Ajdir, in the tribe of Beni Ur-riaghel. In pigment, in measurements, and morphologically this Riffian is as perfect a Nordic as one could find in northern Europe. Nordics are as ancient in North Africa as the Egyptian monuments of the Middle Kingdom, and perhaps older. They survive today mostly in the mountains of the Rif, but others are found in the Canary Islands, and the Djurdjura and Aures mountains of Algeria.

Northern Africans and Southern Europeans roughly come from the same biological stock, that is a blend of mediterrean and nordic blood called "old European" or "old mediterranean" ; nevertheless, the former absorbed semitic (from the Arab) and negroid (Sub-Sahalian Africa isn't so far) blood, whereas the later did keep their European blood clean.

You can find in Maghrebian who look like Al pacino or Antonio Banderas, but it by no way entail that people from Southern Europe are from NA extraction, on the opposite it would rather mean some people from NA who could be considered as fully white can be found. I can't understant why some of you have a job to grasp such a simple logic...

Moreover, I know some full-blooded Kabyles who would easily pass for Irish as far pigmentation and facial features are concerned.
