:D I guess in times of war...man will go to great extremes of innovative designs from brillance to the outright bizaare & dangerous.

The 'Blitz Buggy' never saw action (after failed test 'flight' attempts & the reluctance from actual willing human 'test crash dummies' :D ...In 1943, a RAF squadron leader actually collapsed on the runway during a experimental flight).

The rather adventurous & crazy contraption (invented by Austrian engineer Raoul Hafner) consisted of a US army Willys 4x4 jeep with a tail & rotor attached. This was to be dropped/released from a bomber aircraft at 1300metres. ...Once airborne, the helicopter jeep (by force of the air) would turn the (unpowered) 15m rotorblades and would hopefully 'float' to the ground. :-O ...Once behind enemy lines...the tail & rotor would be removed & it would once become a regular driving jeep to aid/support Allied paratroopers.

What a great idea! The jeep could take the hard landing.
