This may be true but it can be tested. If dinosaur extinction was gradual, then dinosaurs, at least some of them, would have lingered on after the K-T boundary layer. To date, nobody has found a dinosaur after the metor impact.

Some are now saying that the asteroid theory doesn't quite explain why a layer of charcoal hasn't been found all over the world and why more fragile species survived when certain others were killed.
