Modern devices may not really fit into the "off grid" category ,
but nevertheless , might at least add comfort or savings .

One topic on this forum recently had been 'surge protector' for electricity ,
in a thread , that had nothing to do with electricity :

Modern electric current distributors like power strips have even WIFI enabled to be switched on and off by a mobile phone ,
but this is a slightly older product , that would not need permanent power consumption for WIFI-standby , that would
hinder power to periphiral devices , if the master device turns off .
In case , the addon device does not have an own Operating System like a router and printer , this might be useful
in an assembly of a Home Personal Computer with a simple monitor ,
and some dumb external devices like DVD-Players and Hard Disk Drives .

smart power strip makes it easy for you to completely turn off plugged-in devices (like computer workstations or entertainment centers) and eliminate standby power usage (also known as "phantom load" or "vampire draw").
