I have read in several places that some aspects of Santa were inspired by Thor, but I've also read the same about Odin. Has anyone read anything definitive on this?

Thanks,

Rob

Never heard about Thor and santa.

Odin and Heimdall is mentioned in connection to Santa.

Jólnir is a different name for Odin, and Jol is what you English speakers call yule.

I guess you are familiar with the scandinavian Tomte/Nisse?

The reindeers were only introduced to christmas in the 1800's by Norwegians and Samis.

But St. Nicolaus also has something to do with santa, it's based on different things. Even coca cola...

Guess you can find some threads on it here on Skadi from before. Did you try the search function?

I have heard the stories of Wotan (Odin) but never Thor. Where did you get this information. Would like to look at it.
