I like to let you know about the upcoming game 'Cross of the Dutchman' revolving around the guy in my avatar. A game that i hope will instill some pride in young Frisian boys' and girls' heritage!

Cross of the Dutchman is about the 16th century Frisian folk hero 'Grutte Pier' (or Great Pier, as you will). Pier is said to have been a huge guy, who wielded an even bigger 'two-hander' (sword). More info on Pier himself: Pier Gerlofs Donia wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pier_Gerlofs_Donia)

Quoted from wikipedia:

The story of CotD will be centered around the figure of Pier Gerlofs Donia]], who went by the nickname of Grutte Pier (Big Peter, in the old-Frisian language). Pier loses everything he has to a band of Dutch and German mercenaries and invaders who have been invading and plundering his lands for many years before. In a land torn apart by civil war and horrendous crimes, bloody rebels and pirates, the stories hero vows revenge against those responsible for his personal tragedy. He embarks on an epic adventure to rid the lands of Frisia from foreign invaders and restore his ancient homeland to its old glory, joined in this by Charles, Duke of Guelders and his nephew and right-hand Wijerd Jelckama. Pier becomes a pirate, a rebel, a freedom fighter, a hero to the people and earns his place in history as the Cross of the Dutchman. But at what cost? Follow in the footsteps of a legendary warrior who will become known as the Cross of the Dutchman for his naval exploits and the many brutal battles he fights and wins. On his quest, Pier encounters many challenges of which the outcome should determine how the people could have seen Pier. Will the player cause chaos and destruction on his path, or will he spare the villagers and take out the enemy when the innocent are out of harms' way? The way in which the player plays the game will allow him to see how a person can turn into a legend, or strike fear in the hearts of anyone who would stand against him.

Very nice! I think I like this game already, although I didnt played a game in ages, I might buy it, when it comes out.
Good thing is that it also mentioned Karel van Egmont, Hertog van Gelre,(Charles, Duke of Guelders). This is a historic fact.

Two epic Dutch freedom fighters who fought side by side against the evil Hollanders and other scum of those times!:D

Hell yeah! :D

By the way, the development team is still looking for a voice actor for Grutte Pier. You have to speak fluently Frisian and need to have a voice that sounds aged, experienced, worn. Everyone who thinks he has the right voice for the job can upload a sound recording to the developer. For more info, check: The Voice of Pier (http://www.crossofthedutchman.com/2011/10/voice-pier-part-ii/)

Sadly, i don't think i'm right for the part. But maybe other Frisians are reading this and are willing to give it a shot :)

Maybe they also need a voice actor for Karel van Egmont. Perhaps you are the one Donar ;)

Edit: oh, i forgot you are from Overijssel...

The voices won't be correct anyway, because they spoke way different 400 years ago ;)

No! I live in Overijssel. I was born in Gelderland! I moved recently because of the children;)
My heart belongs to the Geldersche soil!

This looks like one helluva nice game.
Also, it is very rare in todays day and age to see movies or games focused on old Germanic legends and featuring old Germanic heroes.
I am very excited to see how this turns out, but I'll definetely be following the game's progress. If the game will be succesful (and I believe it has every potential to be succesful) then it will be a major boost for Frisian history and Frisian culture.

I thought this might interest you, Sybren. They just released their first teaser-trailer to raise interest for the game. The more attention (views and thumbs-up on YouTube) it gets, the better. :D

Looks like this is going to be a very interesting game about a very interesting piece of history. And the musical score is amazing. ;)
