Vegetable: Stephen Hawking. Fruit: Elton John.

But seriously I love mangos, melons, grapes and strawberries.

For vegetables I like gherkins, peas and Jersey Royal potatoes.

In 1878 a Jersey farmer called Hugh de la Haye purchased two enormous potatoes displayed on the counter in a local store. That evening he invited some friends for supper and after the meal he showed them the two huge potatoes he had bought, one of them with 15 "eyes" (from which new plants sprout). Hugh and his friends cut this potato into sixteen pieces which they planted in a côtil, a steeply-sloping field, above Bellozanne valley. The following spring the crop was large and early, and though most of it and the parent potatoes were round, one plant solely produced kidney-shaped potatoes, which came to be known as the Jersey Royal Fluke.
Annually the Jersey Royal market has a value of £35m. It is Jersey's biggest crop export, accounting for 70% of agricultural turnover. 99% of production is exported to the United Kingdom. During the Jersey Royal season, exports from Jersey account for 75% of all potato sales in the United Kingdom.

The Mangosteen

I have had the pleasure of trying it only once myself, but this was easily the best fruit I have ever tasted.

The taste is indescribable and I can only say that it is a powerful citrus with a perfect balance of sweetness.

Pickles

http://www.sks-bottle.com/Pickles.jpg

Yummy, yummy... and I prefer brine for pickling, not vinegar. :P

I don't have any particular preference for vegetables... But let's say that I like carrots, besides cucumbers. And potatoes, as baked potatoes, especially whole baked potatoes, eaten with butter and a particular kind of cheese (it's white, soft, sweet, made usually of sheep milk; I think it's "bløt ost" in Norwegian, but I'm not sure).

And for fruits... forest berries!!! Almost all of them!!! :D

This is a good theme Siebenbürgerin about vegetarian food. It shure makes somebody feel better and healthier, when fruit and vegetables is on the menue more than beef.

My favorite fruit is the orange. I know it's not something our ancestors enjoyed, but I still find it irresistible. I also like tomatoes (especially with a little bit of salt), peaches, gooseberries, pomegranate, all kinds of cherries, strawberries, blackberries and blackcurrant.

My least favorite fruit are the mango, the :puke cantaloupe, and a few others that I can't think of at the moment.

Edit: my favorite vegetables are potatoes, boiled with salt.

haha I thought they were a vegetable

A lot of people think tomatoes are vegetables, probably because they are not sweet and people tend to associate fruits with sweetness.

Botanically, a tomato is a fruit: the ovary, together with its seeds, of a flowering plant. However, the tomato has a much lower sugar content than other fruits, and is therefore not as sweet. Typically served as part of a salad or main course of a meal, rather than at dessert, it is considered a vegetable for most culinary purposes. One exception is that tomatoes are treated as a fruit in home canning practices: they are acidic enough to be processed in a water bath rather than a pressure cooker as "vegetables" require. Tomatoes are not the only foodstuff with this ambiguity: eggplants, cucumbers, and squashes of all kinds (such as zucchini and pumpkins) are all botanically fruits, yet cooked as vegetables.

Pears, apples, strawberries, plums, cherries, raspberries and grapes. The best fruit is grown yourself, in season. :)

Neophyte
Thursday, May 26th, 2011, 09:16 PM
I like almost anything that grows. Potatoes, broccoli, celeriac, parsnip, apples, oranges, melons, grapes etc. etc.

But one thing that I really like is pomegranate, both as a fruit and as a part of "regular" food. That is probably my favourite fruit. E.g. try mixing a liberal amount of pomegranate with your bulgur wheat. :)

From the more regular vegetables I would have to pick green peas and Brussels sprouts. You cannot go wrong with them.
