The precise origin by genealogy linking over 90% to French settlers is a little uninteresting, more interesting would be to check the areas of France from which they came.

The genealogy portion when compared to the genetic contribution also suggests another thing: If only 95 founders were Amerindian but virtually every Quebecois claims one of them in his pedigree then this does tell us quite a lot about the idea that most of those genealogies are a bit of a myth, and that Amerindians were added for prestige in many cases.

Who wants a "Cherokee princess named Pocahontas" in their family tree? Why would half-breed status be desirable? Are societies in Oklahoma, the Four Corners, Alaska and Hawaii the cream of the crop?
