I am not a very big fan of cinema. But I must say that most films that Stanley Kubrick made, where quite good and always caught my attention with their message. One can look at his films from many different angles and relate them to many different topics.
My favorite is 2001:A space Odyssey. I look at it from a religious prespective. Showing that man was created by evolution and not by god. Like the Monolith, Notice how when the main character tries to walk towards it, he is blinded, just like in the bible when Moses is blinded. Or when they try to take a picture of the monolith and a sound comes. I think that part has a meaning that says "God is faceless, and no matter what you can't take a picture of it".
I'll be interested to see what messages other people in the forum got from his films. ;)

My favourite of all his films is 'Barry Lyndon'... it has incredible production values, direction is perfect, the script is witty beyond imagination. It actually parodies the main character and mocks human nature all the time. The story takes place in the 18th century, a period I have absolutely no interest in, yet this film made it interesting.

It's about the life of some guy who wanders the battlefields, courts and taverns of 18th century Europe. Experiences nostalghia, death, happiness, love, women, success, failures and everything else that makes a rich life. An Irishman who from a slave-soldier in Prussia becomes a spy and nobleman... everything is in this movie, and it's filled with subtext, memorable moments, laughs and emotions.

AFAIK the movie is filmed completely using ONLY natural light. It gives the film an organic feel, and it makes it all the more authentic and immersive.

Here are some impressive shots:

You really need to see this film, life will make much more sense after you see it. :)

I will try to get this film, sounds interesting. :)

Dont know why they just play the worst films 3 times in a year on TV and the few good once a time in 5 years...

My favorite was Full Metal Jacket.
You know, That is probably my least favorite film by Kubrick. Don't get me wrong, By any standards is it a bad film, I just don't think is as powerful as his other films. It has some really good scenes and lines.
"What the fuck? What the fuck is that!!?"
"A jelly donut sir!"
A jelly donut.."
