The primary racial types of South Norway according to Norwegian anthropologists in the early 20th. century, the Norwegians of peasant stock were considered more isolated, "pure" and somtimes less mixed so anthropological studies were often carried out on the rural populations.

The longskulls and the short skulls.

In it's pure form the viking type. long skulls were tall, blonde and blue eyed, energic, daring, dynamic and imaginative, on the forefront in their planes and the challenges of the feature they were considered the carriers of Nordic culture, The squat and dark shortskulls were more prone to slowness, they were more conservative and old fashioned in their thinking and handeled new or unfamiliar situations badly, they were of heavy thought and more for religious pondering than the longskulls, they were also better at poetry and music theory.

I'd like to know what Coon would have classified them as. It's a bit strange they have Mongoloid and Finnic types in southern Norway, I actually think the examples posted just look Cro-Magnon or Alpinid, not very Mongoloid at all.

I don't believe they are actually 'mongoloid' racially, they don't even look asiatic, last one looks a bit like the Icelandic singer Jón Þór Birgisson with a moustache.

Finnic traits are more common though, espically in northern and eastern Norway with the Kven and Forest Finn immigrations from the 16th and 18th century, the nordic types are found mostly in eastern and southern Norway and the dark and the vaage* types are most common in western Norway.

That is why I thought Mongoloid was a strange term. Since they are in the south, they probably have no links to any Lappoid or Mongoloid people.

There used to be some Sami people in south Norway mainly in Telemark but they were few in numbers, archeologists have also discovered traces of 1000 year old Sami settlements in Valdres in Oppland.
